Jamaica has a total ban on the private ownership of firearms, so it should be the one of the safest places on the planet. There seem to be more honest folk moving out than in; coincidence?
Interestingly holding firearms sideways was quite appropriate at one time, that time being when people used smooth-bore flintlock pistols. The reason for this is that these firearms used to kick up and sideways when fired. This had a tendency to make the shooter miss more often than not. Holding the pistol sideways meant that the pistol had a much better chance of staying on target. Today of course, it makes absolutely no sense.
And as long as we are on the topic of silly scenes in films, what about the one where the bad guy points a semi-automatic at the hero or heroine and tells them to do something; emphasizing the order by pulling back the slide to inject a cartridge into the chamber (this cliche is also performed with automatic rifles). Anyone viewing such as scene should ask "Wait a minute?" Was he pointing a firearm at someone without a shell in the chamber? Or if he wasn't why did he just eject the shell that was in the chamber?"
I looked up the stats from STATSCAN a couple years ago. .if I recall correctly, firearms deaths were going down year by year --before--the current restrictions came into play, not after as is claimed by the anti-gun lobby
Also, seems you are more likely to be stabbed to death, and even beaten to death, than you are at risk of being shot.
But there is an extreme amount of distortion being fed to the media about "how easy it" is to get any gun, including pistols. leading the masses of uniformed to believe than any nutbar can walk into a (now rare) gunshop and walk out with any kind of pistol or automatic weapon or something. Completely absurd.

Yup. That's another one that's funny. Also when one is holding a revolver (usually a double action revolver) why cock it? Double actions are point and squeeze, so there's no need for pulling the hammer back.
