Canada's Liberal Party government led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has introduced a bill that would ban transgender discrimination, including both gender identity and gender expression, with up to two years in prison for violators.

The bill seeks to amend the Canadian Criminal Code to expand existing "hate speech" prohibitions to include any public speech or communication that "promotes hatred" on the basis of "gender identity" or "gender expression," and also the Canadian Human Rights Act, to cover transgender people.


"As a society, we have taken many important steps toward recognizing and protecting the legal rights for the LGBTQ2 community – from enshrining equality rights in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms to the passage of the Civil Marriage Act," Trudeau said in a speech, announcing the bill on International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia on May 17. "There remains much to be done, though. Far too many people still face harassment, discrimination, and violence for being who they are. This is unacceptable."

He added: "To do its part, the Government of Canada today will introduce legislation that will help ensure transgender and other gender-diverse people can live according to their gender identity, free from discrimination, and protected from hate propaganda and hate crimes."
In July, Prime Minister Trudeau plans to march in the Toronto Gay Pride parade.

population of the country as a whole, but what could it be?

I'm assuming it's tiny, like 34,000,000:to tiny.....so is this
really an issue? A National issue? Is this one of those,

I can find conflicting statistics for Canada for the LGBTQ Community
as a whole with a population %'age varying from 2%-5% lumped
together.....but nothing about the Canadian Transgender percentage
alone, which is what this thread is about. Anybody else have any luck?

I'm also thinking there will be some big construction projects to build gender-neutral and gender-fluid prisons in the future.

Sorry, Ron...........I did try. Went to Canada census but there is no category specifically for transgender folks. I imagine they are going to have to come up with some kind of number if they are going to building all these new facilities.

Yep. The whole thing is a smokescreen. First off is the whole bathroom thing. This is called a wedge issue and it's designed to distract the population while the TPP goes sailing on through, giving away even more of our sovereignty. It's also designed to detract from how f*cking little the fed is doing for the people of Ft. Mac and surrounding area. Get the people whipped into a fervor over something that's such niggling bullsh*t that it won't even matter in the annals of human history, so they quit paying attention to the figure in the corner lubing up to f*ck them.
Secondly, this new bit of legislation is nothing more than mental masturbation. Every citizen of Canada is already protected from hate speech. This is just more grandstanding by Trudeau.
