Companies that operate oil pipelines KNOW which areas are most likely to rupture....................due to a sharp turn or a restriction or some other issue that increases friction and pressure in certain local areas................................
Companies have simply decided that it is cheaper to wait till the pipe ruptures before going out to fix it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Preventative maintenance means parts get replaced sooner and at higher cost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avoiding preventative maintenance means wringing the absolute maximum possible use out of parts before throwing them away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That way they get MAXIMUM USE before needing to do costly repairs that shut down the line!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There aren't that many places on Canada's coasts where they'd be effective, anyway. Fundy has been experimenting with them for decades. Baffin Island is a natural as they also have really high tides and it makes sense to generate electricity up there for the 11,000 inhabitants rather than burning diesel #4/7 to do it, as they do now. They'd better be tough, reliable units and well under the sea ice as it will be a serious bitch to fix them up there.
There are lots of inlets along the BC coast with serious tidal rips at their mouths, too. The Canadian Navy has trained all of their navigators along the BC inshore since WWII not just because it is protected, there (hard to learn how to navigate when you're puking your guts out) but because it's like a swireling, liquid pinball table of tidal currents and you'd better get your shyte together right quick. If you put tidal generators down those, though, Lotus Land idiots 'll be chaining themselves to them.
Sorry, Eagle..........but facts are facts and Canada is still low on the scale compared to the US.

Many other countries' absolute and per capita emissions have changed dramatically over the decades — China's growth after 2000 is particularly explosive — but the US has consistently dominated the world in terms of per capita emissions. If you needed motivation to call your elected representatives to tell them you support a Green New Deal, here you go.
