I'm calling you down in 2009. It isn't even close.

In 8 years of war there have been about 1000 Coalition deaths... in Vietnam there would have been close to the total count of what 54,000.

Again... Canada probably lost about 1000 on June 6, 1944... was that Vietnam?

Either way this war was from the start ill equipped, the deaths we suffered do not justify the benefit.

You do so love to resort to the stupid don't you....

Vietnam ... millions expended to walk away a loser (or a draw to save American face)
Afghanistan ... same deal

This proves that you have just done that to yourself.

But hey... if it helps you sleep at night to think this way please don't let me stop you.

Two completely different situations. Every conflict we are in is compared to Vietnam. Saddam said Desert Storm would be a Vietnam. Even Noreiga said Panama would be a Vietnam... I was there for all of 4 months!

All it proves is your helmet was too tight.

Another parallel.... In Vietnam and in Afghanistan, the great USA started out courting one then switched sides. Reality a bit much for you?

Please Soc... not a dent? The Taliban was in complete control of Afghanistan. The Nothern Alliance own a sliver of the north. Now the Taliban is squashed into Pakistan, completely out of power and comes out to take a couple shots here and there and get trounced each and every time.
How much of the country is in permanent lock-down type conditions (check-points) to achieve those 'goals'? Lift the 'signs of occupation' and things are right back at the start. Alexander was the last one to rule over them, it lasted 3 years. How were his methods different?

Not long ago I went to A Taste of Saigon, a nice little restaurant in northwest Calgary. It was just like Vietnam to. I wasn't there for four month though but I did leave via a chopper on the roof.

Oh so we were fighting for the North Vietnamese (or planning to fight with them) then switched to the South Vietnamese. I must have missed that.

So I guess we are fighting for the Taliban now and fighting against the Karzai Government.

Of course when you resort to the rediculous....

Fighting? No ... just the usual meddling. OSS and an anti-colonialist USA assisted one Ho Chi Minh in Viet Minh - the nationalist effort to oust Japan ... then France. Apparently, Ho didn't play by your controlling rules when he accepted recognition from the neighbours, China and Russia. In 1949-50, you turned coat and supported France.

The Karzi thing is just illogic by Eaglesnack....

Oh so you want to reach back into WWII. We were also allied with Mao and Stalin as well.

If it is illogical then your post is illogical. Did you not say we switched sides in Afghanistan?

Are alliances set in stone?

Are we going to start flinging names Wolf? Is that what you want? We can... I've no problem with that.

Flinging names.... Ever heard of a typo? Oops. Apologies. Look at the key placement....

No alliance is set in stone. It's the reasons some alliances switch that makes one doubt solidarity.

Who funded Afghanistan in their battle to kick Russia out? Now, you're killing Afghanis. We know. Do they?

I agree to a point with regards to alliances. It goes both ways though. Nations don't just flip alliances because they are bored.

Yes but we didn't fund the Taliban. The Taliban was not even involved in the Soviet-Afghan War... they didn't arrive on the scene until after although some people insist on using that angle. Groups that made up the Nothern Alliance were very much involved with the Soviet-Afghan War. The Taliban emerged out of Pakistan, made up from Afghan refugees and Pakistanis during the Afghan Civil War.

What does it matter, treaties are not written in stone. As was mentioned, Russia and China were our allies during WW-2, Vietnam was a colony of France (ally) Yes we did help the mujahideen resistance oust the Russians. We (The U.S.) did not support the Taliban, they took over around 1996 till 2001. The Taliban reversed any and all civil rights progress instituted by interim Afghanistan goverment. Taliban BAD people, we Good.
