Can Ignatieff distance himself from his past?

We talk about Ignatieff's past like it was something shameful. For a man to live outside Canada for 27 years, he must be some kind of charlatan.
Now, if I was clever enough to get my doctorate from Harvard and good enough to teach at Oxford and Cambridge, and to be a professor emeritus at Harvard, and to write 17 books, several of them award winners, I wonder if I would have stayed in Canada. I don't think so.
I wonder if you would be so understanding and gushing if he was a Conservative?

Seems to me, that if someone uses his passport as a matter of convenience, he real isn't what I want as a leader. No matter the political stripe.

You are doing what the Conservatives are doing. If you think Iggy is a good man than explain why. Running down Harper doesn't make Iggy look impressive, just like the Conservatives attacking Iggy doesn't hide Harper's mistakes.

Far from presenting a fresh direction, Iggy seems like more of the same to me. Nothing I have seen or heard from him has shown me that he cares one iota for Canada. Wanting to believe it doesn't make it so.

Politics used to be about service to the community. It is no longer.

I don't disagree with your last statement, it's become little more than a competition to see who can further his own agenda while actually responding to the needs of the majority the least possible. Harper hasn't helped the process by dividing the house even further and restricting the press as much as he could. He's much more like Bush in that regard.

And I'm not saying Ignatieff is perfect, there is no such thing in politics or the real world for that matter. What he does offer is a wider vision than the current PM. I live in Alberta now and understand the importance of the oil and energy sector to this province and Canada as a whole. That shouldn't be the guiding force in a national leader however as I think it is with Harper.

The world is rapidly changing and we better get our act together in this country fast if we don't want to be left behind. I doubt that a man who was basically raised in the oil business and is largely backed by it is going to it for us.

We need someone with a bit more vision than that.

Hardly gushing. Btw, I once voted for Mulroney. I just listed a few of Ignatieff's accomplishments. I admit I don't know Ignatieff that well but what I do know of him sounds better than Harper.

O' shyte = of poopies

Hey Jonny good day to you, have you ever done anything of great importance in your life? If you haven’t done anything notable in your life we know the reason why.

Your brain is impotent. It looks like you were badly socialized as a little boy, if that was the case on one hand I feel sorry for you, and on the other hand if you are an adult it is time you grow up and get a life.

What the h e l l is your problem?

I was trying to say that Turner looked a little worse for ware, and if I somehow offended you, tough bananas.
If you'd like to have a conversation about the value of my life's work, I'd be happy to oblige. Otherwise, stow it.
I guess your tunnel vision didn't pick up that the same term you find so offensive was used just a couple of posts below mine.
I'm sorry if your life didn't turn out as you planned and that you need to take it out on me, but seriously, get a grip.

That's John Turner?! What happened? He looks like a bag o' shyte!

Calling a man you never met or know a "a bag o' shyte" and sharing that thought on this forum is hardly to be taken with sarcasm, but rather an indication of some deep dislike on a man you don’t know because of his political affiliation, now to make me look like I am out to lunch, because of my protest, you have demonstrated how you hit and run.

He didn't call him a bag o shyte. He said he looks like a bag o shyte....and he does.
