ok - there is a LOT of stupid to unpack here.

So lets start with the obvious, a bunch of cops could not subdue a guy in a wheelchair without firing on him with tazers and firearms. So that happened.

Despite the fact he's probably read at least a number of the stories about black people getting shot fleeing the police OR threatening the police, he attempted to flee on leg stubs and then threatened to throw a knife at the cops.

The idea of shooting a bad guy multiple times is that even injured a man might charge in on foot and hurt officers if they don't. I'm not sure that this applies here GIVEN HE HAS NO LEGS. So maybe 10 plus rounds was excessive.

The family is asking for murder charges despite the fact he did threaten to throw the knife (if reports are to be believed.) ALso - what about the person who was stabbed by a guy in a wheelchair? What happened with that?

Seriously - it just feels like if you pick any side in this you'd still feel like your people did something stupid.

Jesus…I'm thinking “Spike Belt” to stop this dude…whether he was still in his wheelchair or waddling away on his stumps, a Spike Belt probably would have been effective…or a curb…or a flight of stairs…or traffic, etc…

The LA sheriff’s department, which is investigating the killing, said in an initial statement that Lowe attempted to “throw the knife at the officers”, but a spokesperson later told the LA Times that Lowe “did not throw the knife ultimately, but he made the motion multiple times over his head like he was going to throw the knife”. The spokesperson also said that two officers had fired roughly 10 rounds at Lowe, who was hit in the torso.

The Huntington Park department does not use body cameras.

Advocates and Lowe’s family said the Huntington Park case illustrated how quickly police escalate situations and resort to lethal force. The video (a bystander’s Cell Phone video) does not show any civilians near Lowe as he tries to hobble away, and he also appears to be at a distance from the officers.

The spokesperson for the LA sheriff’s agency, which has its own track record of police violence and misconduct scandals, told the LA Times that the officers who fired at Lowe were on leave “for a few days”, would undergo a psychological evaluation and would be assigned to administrative duties until they were approved to return to fieldwork.

The guy's hobbling away on stumps - that sticky paper you use to catch mice would have been effective never mind spike belts. I mean - just tip him over.

That was awesome by the way, but even a 1/2 sheet of 1/4” plywood would have made these officers impervious to anything that Stumpy could have thrown at them.

Seriously though, how did this even start? Was the dude J-Walking/Rolling? Pulled over for speeding? This another one of those “Wellness Checks” that end in death?

the cops got a report of a stabbing and that the perp was in a wheelchair. They found him in the general area and thought he was the stabber. but the story doesn't say if there was any reason to think he was or if the report was even accurate or real.
