Most Canadians say faces shouldn’t be covered at citizenship ceremonies: poll

A new Global News/Ipsos Reid poll indicates most Canadians agree with the prime minister when it comes to face coverings while attending citizenship ceremonies.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper recently said that wearing the niqab is “rooted in a culture that is anti-women” and that it is “offensive” for someone to keep their face shrouded during the citizenship ceremony.

The poll indicated that 88 per cent of Canadians strongly or somewhat support the “requirement that people show their faces during Canadian citizenship ceremonies.”

At the same time, 72 per cent of respondents said they strongly or somewhat agree with Harper’s comment about the niqabs and burkas being symbols of oppression.

Its the coming clash of two worlds and its going to get worse and far more
intolerant before it ends. We are expecting people to come here and adopt
Canadian ways. In fact the days of cultural diversity I think right or wrong
are all but dead. Multiculturalism is going to be seen as a failure and not
by the older generations by the younger ones.
What is being played as religious is not its custom and when some play the
wrong card race or religious and its not credibility becomes an issue for
everything.
In Canada we should have one set of laws for everyone period. We should
have thought about cultural religious and other differences before we opened
our boarders perhaps. But none the less one law for everyone should still
prevail.
The problem is tensions of difference are bordering on a much bigger problem.
Some in our society are now being seen as a threat warranted or not and
society is starting to circle the wagons and we should get ready for bumps in
the road whether we like it or not reality is changing

I agree but sadly your choice of political leaders do not .
