Another wonderful and pretty much useless product of the oil industry.

I use to use Twizzlers, but the sugar, man. I could live without straws, I don't have much use for them, except for the odd Caesar.
Yes, because carbon taxes do nothing for the environment and that makes some environmentalists very happy.
Let's just paint all the straws green and put a catchy logo on the side.

The plastic straw is relatively new. For the first 4000 years or so of human civilization they were made out of paper or, as the name suggests, organic materials like straw. We can still have straws, but let's just make then out of something that doesn't last a couple of thousand years.
There are so many alternatives to plastic straws so it just makes sense to stop using them.
But instead of banning, this is the perfect opportunity to use carbon pricing as an incentive.
Subsidies? That being said, you give incentives to businesses through a tax break.
For example, replacing plastic straws with an alternative saves them some money. That incentive to business is afforded by carbon pricing.
The Conservatives in Manitoba even know this.
Subsidies?
Manitoba joined SK in taking the Feds to Court over Carbon Tax.
great now people will be hoarding straws.
this is the last straw!
I am distrawt.

At a rate of 50 million uses per day, I can think of no better solution than a plastic straw that is recyclable. The health risks from glass reusable straws would not be worth it.
I really don't understand the problem, when I toss out a drink cup, the lid and straw always go into the recyclables bin. Then someone melts it down and makes a pill bottle or patio furniture.
Straws don't suck. You do.
clearly you are too lazy to recycleall single use plastics should be phased out.
So much for freezies and big gulps .all single use plastics should be phased out.
Lol. Girlfriend??My GF just said over my shoulder, try drinking a beverage without a straw, when you are wearing lipstick...or give a kid a drink without a lid and a straw, and just stand there and wait with a rag and a change of clothes.
try walking around with an armful of lunch and a drink with no lid.

Why? Can you only put those in plastic containers?
Except for one major problem. Most nations do not recycle plastic. Just visit any Latin American country. The roads and streets are littered with plastic waste. Ditto for Africa and most of Asia. The solution is much simpler; go back to using paper straws and cups or better still cups and straws made out of biodegradable materials.
