Britain is reportedly preparing for the possibility of war breaking out with North Korea as concerns rise that another provocative missile test could trigger a military response by the US.

British officials have drawn up military plans for a response to a break out of hostilities, it was reported.

Among the plans disclosed by the Daily Mail is the deployment of the navy's newst aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth, before it has undergone flight trials.

Sir Michael Fallon, the Defence Secretary, said last week that the UK should increase its military spending in the face of growing threats from states such as North Korea.

Britain is reportedly preparing for the possibility of war breaking out with North Korea as concerns rise that another provocative missile test could trigger a military response by the US.

North Korea is being closely watched amid fears it could launch another long-range missile test on Tuesday to mark the anniversary of the founding of its ruling party.

Bellicose rhetoric from Donald Trump has heightened tension in the region in recent months, prompting British officials to draw up military plans for a response to a break out of hostilities, it was reported.

Among the plans disclosed by the Daily Mail is the deployment of the navy's newest aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth, before it has undergone flight trials.

"We have plenty of ships to send… the Type-45 destroyers, the Type-23 frigates. Britain’s new aircraft carrier could be pressed into service early if things turn south," a senior Whitehall source told the newspaper.

HMS Queen Elizabeth, which arrived at its home in Portsmouth in August after extensive sea trials, is not due to enter service until 2020.

The possible move to deploy it ahead of schedule drew comparisons with the start of the Falklands War.

"In the Falklands we had to react to an event and HMS Illustrious was accelerated to respond," a Navy source told the Mail.

"This was a reaction to protect British territory, however. In this case [North Korea], the UK would be part of a united global coalition. We would see what support we could give."

The US president hinted on Saturday at taking military action against Kim Jong-un's regime, saying "only one thing will work" in dealing with the country.

...hasn't worked, agreements violated before the ink was dry, makings fools of U.S. negotiators. Sorry, but only one thing will work!

The president has previously said the United States would "totally destroy" North Korea if necessary to protect itself and its allies from Pyongyang's nuclear threats.

Sir Michael Fallon, the Defence Secretary, said last week that the UK should increase its military spending in the face of growing threats from states such as North Korea.

Last month, Sir Michael told the BBC that Britain was at risk from Pyongyang'’s long-range nuclear missile programme.

“The US is fully entitled to defend its own territory, to defend its bases and to look after its people, but this involves us, London is closer to North Korea and its missiles than Los Angeles," he said.

I presume that it will be used as a helicopter carrier. Why not send the helicopter carriers like HMS Albion, instead and not risk the new and incomplete ship? The F-35s are not ready, yet.

Whitehall obviously knows better than you:

I'll never happen. The war will be short and nasty before the Chinese intervene, again. This time, they'll succeed as they are times more powerful than they were in November 1950. Your carrier will be half way around the world from Korea.

Didn't people in Britain say that in 1914 about the war, saying "It'll be over by Christmas"?

If that is the sort of conflict that we're headed into on the Korean Peninsula, kiss your sorry ass goodbye.
Your carrier will not survive WWIII and the almost certain accompanying use of theatre nuclear weapons.

Well warships do get sunk in wars - because they fight in them. It's what they're for. It's been happening for centuries. What do you want us to do - not send an aircraft carrier to war in case it gets sunk?

In World War II alone, the Royal Navy lost 3 battleships, 2 battlecruisers, 8 aircraft carriers (including 3 escorts), 28 cruisers, 132 destroyers, 10 frigates, 74 submarines, 8 minelayers, 32 minesweepers, 22 corvettes, 10 sloops, 15 auxiliary cruisers and 1035 smaller ships.

You should put glass bottoms in your warships so that the "new" Navy can get a good look at the "old" Navy.

A 16,000 sq meter flat target with virtually no air cover (F-35S). You,ll loose it as well soon as it gets in range and loads weapons.
Aircraft carriers are only of service in this era when suppressing a relatively unarmed enemy. The British Isles occupied by opium pushing Chinese carpet baggers. Wouldn't that cause a fuss in merry old. I wonder where the Chi-coms got the idea?

The Norks 'll send every rustbucket submarine in their arsenal to lay a trap for her (They have 70 of them). As primitive as they are, those old diesel boats will be hard to find. They're small and they can run absolutely silently and they are a real threat. The carrier is designed to withstand several hits but a few successful sprays of torpedos will eventually do her in. I'm sure that the UKs MOD advertises her as "unsinkable". I'll see if I can finger that brochure from the White Star line making the same claim about their shiny new launching.

South Korea has repeatedly said they must be consulted first before anyone attacks the North. They do have the most to lose.

It seems that for whatever reason Sir Michael Fallon want's that taxpayers to buy him some shiny new weapons and is using NK as an excuse........

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a massive aircraft carrier just south of the North-Korean border, of the DMZ, called the Republic of Korea?

As opposed to what? Deliberately cutting our armed forces to the size of the Republic of Ireland's, with 8 ships, 24 aircraft and 7,000 soldiers?

Britain can easily remain a military power - by simply remaining as such.

It would seem to me that, given how North Korea is already teetering on the brink of economic collapse, that simply trading with North Korea on our terms would be enough to keep it in line. In any trade agreement between any country and North Korea, Korea would have the most to gain from an agreement and the most to lose from failing to reach such an agreement. This essentially means that North Korea pretty much needs to accept whatever agreement we present it with along with an ultimatum to take it or leave it.

You can pay for it all with your rapidly devaluing Sterling.

1 Canadian dollar is 61P, today. I remember when it was five dollars Canadian to the Pound.
