It should be obvious he'd stand a much better chance of getting protection for them if he provided the proof that they exist first, so I don't believe getting protection for them is his real motive. This is a guy with a hidden agenda, probably involving enriching himself.

If Bigfoot exists, that danger already exists too. Such people haven't done very well at finding Bigfoot so far, I don't see that proof it exists would make it any easier to find. Lots of people who already believe it's out there have gone looking for it without success. Probably all that'd happen is that we'd have more rednecks, trophy hunters, and maladjusted women, getting lost and disappearing in the wilderness. Which might not be a bad thing.
