He opposed gay marriage until yesterday?

Yes...

"As a candidate for president in 2008, Obama opposed same- sex marriage. Since late 2010, he had said his views were "evolving." His new stance came a day after North Carolina voters passed a constitutional amendment against gay marriage and Republican lawmakers in Colorado killed a measure to approve civil unions, illustrating the political risks in battleground states."

And in 2004 he was for it before he was against it before he was for it again.

Ah.

Okay, so I'll assume that his views since 2010 were evolving. That's a pretty obvious sign that he wasn't patently opposed to same-sex marriage until yesterday.

One thing we know his opposing gay marriage up till yesterday to him now supporting it was a flip flop or dishonesty.

I've never seen any opposition to gay marriage from him. Link?

That's still not his words, that's someone else interpreting his silence. Any evidence of words said, or votes cast, that directly opposed?

Evolving? Meaning he lied back then or simply flip flopped.

No, I take it as evolving. It's a pretty honest depiction of ones changing views.

People are allowed to change.

Especially politicians, who are also human and can change their beliefs.

This is a euphemism for changing your mind. Nothing more. Certainly nothing noble or cathartic that required Bobo to bare his soul.

But if we're gonna play the 'evolving' word game, then maybe he's a Galapagos Finch. Nice and slow-like.

Obama Still Opposes Same-Sex Marriage - Political Hotsheet - CBS News

Snippet...

"The president does oppose same-sex marriage, but he supports equality for gay and lesbian couples, and benefits and other issues, and that has been effectuated in federal agencies under his control," White House adviser David Axelrod said today on MSNBC.

Doing a bit more reading on the subject, it looks less like 'changing' his mind and more like 'revealing' his mind. From what I can see, Obama stood in opposition to any bill that dealt with gay marriage in any way.... for or against. He wanted it a non-issue so he didn't have to piss off half the country one way or another. Pretty typical political crap.

Yeah, to reinforce what I was saying....

From the same article...

He noted, however, that the president has always opposed Proposition 8.
"The president opposed Proposition 8 at the time -- he felt it was divisive, he felt that it was mean spirited," Axelrod said. "We reiterated that position yesteday."

The only logical conclusion from this is that Obama has always supported gay marriage personally. He hasn't done so publicly for political reasons. Now he's coming out in support because Biden ****ed up. It's more likely that he would have gladly gone through the election without ever mentioning it, but Biden really gave him no choice.

Biden didn't **** up! The role of the vice president has always been as a sacrificial lamb for slaughter and to portray himself as the dispensable foil for policy changes that don't work out. The bumbling Hardy to the bombastic Oliver if you will. The poor sap who'se turn it is to take the point for the jungle patrol.

This issue was going to percolate regardless; just as abortion. Backroom discussions were obviusly going to be patterned around how the thing could be dealt with without it seeming to be forced upon Obama by his opposition ergo: have the dummy mention it in passing and O'bama then being able to clarify. He can now be seen as not desiring to bring it to the fore but having to clarify on behalf of his office.

Plenty of time now for the talking heads to keep it up-front and center while ignoring the real issues of the day.

Of course you take it as evolving. That is because you don't want to say he flip flopped. Evolving sounds better than outright lying and flip flopping.

Romney has been taking heat for flip flopping over public health care since he supported Massachusetts mandatory health care law and now he opposes it. He flip flopped... he didn't evolve. And his opponents aren't calling it that... meaning evolve.

Yeah and next thing we'll find out that has been 'revealed' and leaked out of his ears is that, no, he's not a Christian afterall. Just um, spiritual.

Ain't no surprise with politicians.

And if anyone really, ....really, believes Bo has become all deep, warm and huggy all of sudden, they has a 'nuther thing comin'.

Sorry Karrie... my CanCon pal... you are wrong. He opposed same sex marriage. It is all out there. Just google it and see. He said there should be civil unions but marriage was between a man and a woman.

How clearer can this be?

"The president does oppose same-sex marriage,.."- Axelrod Whitehouse advisor

I don't care too much either way.

With a bit of humor I say let them be miserable like the rest of us!
