BC Liberals make gains, but BC NDP still lead polls in Lower Mainland

As election day nears, Liberals are making gains but the NDP continues to lead in the Lower Mainland, according to the latest poll by Mainstreet/Postmedia.

The poll, which surveyed a random sample of 1,650 British Columbians from April 29 to May 1, found that 35% of respondents would vote for the NDP, 31% said they would vote for the Liberals, and 17% sided with the Greens.

According to Quito Maggi, president of Mainstreet Research, keeping support in the Lower Mainland is crucial for the NDP.

“As the race tightens, the NDP must defend their lead in the lower mainland if they are to have a chance at forming government. The Greens continue to be a problem for them on Vancouver Island, and if the race tightens up a few more points in the Lower Mainland, Liberal incumbents will once again be within reach of re-election,” said Maggi.

This week, the Liberals gained support in the Interior and the North, but according to Maggi, voters still aren’t warming up to Christy Clark.

“The backdrop to all this is voters still don’t like Christy Clark. John Horgan’s negatives have risen faster than his positives leaving him with a bare +1 net approval score,” said Maggi.

“While voters have good impressions of Andrew Weaver – not enough of them may vote for his party on election day in a concentrated enough manner for a large number of new seats. It is an election of contradictions and today we cannot predict how this one ends.”

I'd be quite surprised to see a Dipper Gov't. in B.C. Dippers will get a few seats around New West, Burnaby, Surrey and half of Vancouver Island and possibly a seat or two in the Kootenays. Still too many of us old codgers who remember the total disaster of the late 90s. Plus the fact who want's their taxes to skyrocket?

Here we are once again getting ready to head to the polling booths. A provincial election this time, but all elections are pretty much the same. The various clowns come out in full force to sell us their half truths, outright lies, and dreams only a fool would find credible. Political rock stars at a drunken party paid for by us, claiming innocence, poverty, substance, and even honesty, while knowing just the opposite is true. They will never be royals but they imagine they are, and so do some of us.

I think it boils down to a race between Attitude and Incompetence, neither are good but I'll likely cast my vote on the side of attitude!

There's only one outcome to this election that is going to work- hold our nose and vote Liberal and hope they are confined to 45 seats. Horgan is a "loose cannon", Christy is too overwhelmed with her own perceived self importance. As long as her sector of society gets to eat cake, she's OK.............f**k the rest of them!

Is the word Dippers offensive to you?

The only dippers I see are the Liberal caucus dipping into the trough.

Not in the least! It's actually fairly descriptive.

You don't contribute.
Takes a lot of energy to maintain hatred, and it means whatever the object of your hatred is, it's inside your head manipulating your behaviour and it'll usually lead you into making bad decisions about how to deal with it. There are certainly people and things I dislike in varying degrees, but I find mockery or indifference are usually better responses. Even if the object is someone or something truly despicable and/or dangerous, hatred is the wrong response, it clouds the judgment and isn't worth the effort. All it'll achieve is poisoning yourself. - Dexter Sinister
