Let us all pause and give our head a shake. This woman came to Canada and
was accepted. She was the victim of the person who sponsored her so if she
had not complained and just took her beatings he would still be eligible to be her
sponsor. Sounds wonderful wonder how many of us would change places and
accept being beaten.
As of Harper? He is Prime Minister and does not deal with day to day employees
at any level that is why they have supervisors and managers who apparently do
not understand logic. No he should not come down and do something but he can
signal someone else to take action behind the scenes.
I think there is room in the system to deal with things individually and in this case
they should. What she needs if lower level politicians to get involved and in fact
look for a church basement until satisfaction is found within the legal system.
What is happening to this woman is an injustice.
She is a victim of abuse, she is the victim of the system and a victim in the the
eyes of common decency.
I read the O.P. differently. This woman came to Canada, and was here for a few
years before applying for Landed Immigrant Status it sounded like, until she'd
found and married some dude who became her sponsor. Eventually applying
doesn't mean she was accepted. It also doesn't account for how she supported
herself and her kids for those first handful of years without the ability to pay taxes.
Her sponsor committed a crime making him ineligible to be her sponsor. It does
not state that the crime was committed upon her in the article to the best of my
memory.
The O.P. mentioned she'd been in an abusive relationship in Mexico City, but not
why she had to leave Mexico completely, crossing a couple of borders to illegally
take up residence in Canada.
International law states that she has to go to the nearest "safe" country to hers. So she should have gone to the USA, Guatemala or Belize. Instead, she's had to go through the USA to get to Canada. It's like that scum that wash up on Britain's shores every week from Eastern Europe, the Middle East, or Asia. They've had to go through loads of other safe, rich countries in order to get to Britain, even though they should, by law, merely travel to the nearest safe country to theirs.
That's it. There's nothing like showing off that lovely "Canadian compassion" that you so like to preach about.
This would apply
if she was claiming Refugee Status, which she didn't,
according to the O.P. She eventually applied for Landed Immigrant
Status, which if granted...would last for 5yrs, where she could have
either renewed it for another 5yrs or applied for Citizenship.
