It's kind of funny how people will go through all kinds of inconvenient moves to save money buying sh*t they don't need! What percentage of people go in these stores with a definite purchase in mind? Or end up buying a $50 item when they went to buy a $10 item?

I have tried to explain this to my oldest son for many years. He fights people and lines every year. He doesn't understand his "false economy".

About 15 years ago, I needed a new gas can, and mentioned it at the breakfast table. The two youngest went to school, the oldest went to work, and so did I. That afternoon, on the way home, I pulled over at the hardware store and bought a new one.

Number one son comes in the door about 7PM, looking all proud of himself and gives me a gas can.

"I already bought one." I said. He asked how much it cost. "$6.99." I responded.

"Ha! Mine only cost $4.99! You got ripped off! I don't know why you go to the hardware store. They overcharge. I went to Crappy Tire!"

I explained that I drove by the hardware store every day. It took five minutes tops, and I was home for supper.

"So?" He says.

"You drove into town. Round trip, it took you over an hour of your time. You missed supper. You saved $2, but I bet you burned more than $2 in gas to accomplish that. Was it worth the bother?"

He was agitated, but said nothing.

I kept his gas can and thanked him for the gift. "Now I have two cans, and all it cost me was $7!"

Of all the things that wastes money unnecessarily I think unnecessary driving takes the cake. I'm forever pointing out to members of my family that when I go to town I want to get everything and run every errand or wait until such time of day that I can. The odd time it's impossible but generally it's not. Now everyone is going through hoops to prevent climate change whereas if you did things right in the first place the climate might not be changing & one thing for certain the pollution wouldn't be half as bad.

Black Friday chaos: Shootings reported on busy shopping day
Postmedia Network

As crowds of frantic shoppers flock to stores across the continent and abroad in search of Black Friday deals, there have been reports of shootings at both Macy's and Walmart stores, as well as a shooting at a Thanksgiving day youth football game.
Here’s a look at some of the chaos that unfolded in the U.S. Friday:
- Reno, Nev.: A 33-year-old man was shot dead in a Walmart parking lot in Reno shortly after 6 p.m. on Thursday evening. According to KOLO TV, two Black Friday shoppers were arguing over a parking spot when one pulled a gun and fired shots at the other vehicle. One man was killed and no arrests have been made.
- May's Landing, N.J.: A shooting at a mall early Friday morning has left a 20-year-old Atlantic City man dead. The incident occurred outside a Macy's store at the Hamilton Mall around 1 a.m. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds. His 26-year-old brother was also shot and is in stable condition at the hospital. There have been no arrests.
"It’s sad," one shopper told CBS. "We’ve been doing this, me and my girls for probably about 10 years now, just for the fun of going out – a girls night and trying to get some special sales and it’s getting scary now.”
- Louisville, Ky.: Two men were shot and four were injured at a youth Thanksgiving Day football game called the Juice Bowl. Police told Fox News the children had finished their game and two women's teams were playing flag football when shots were fired. Police evacuated the park as coaches helped players get to safety. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene and police are still searching for suspects.
- Memphis, Tenn.: One man was shot and injured at the Wolfchase Galleria Mall in Memphis left one man injured.
Modesto, Calif.: An old-fashioned donnybrook broke out at the Vintage Faire Mall shortly after midnight. Marco Sebastian, who witnessed the brawl, told CNN he was shocked to see the slugfest.

I HATE shopping!!

Even at the best of times so there's absolutely no way I'd go on either Boxing Day or a Black Friday.

Me neither. I can think of nothing more thrilling than going out on Boxing Day in search of next year's Xmas cards at a discounted price!

Fortunately for me hubby doesn't mind doing the shopping (i.e. groceries) as I dislike doing that as well. As for clothes, I only go when I absolutely have to - i.e. I've worn something out. I'm sure I'm the only one at work, including the men, who has a closet with limited clothes and combinations to wear.

I usually purchase a "new" top for our Christmas Party which involves going to a dinner theatre; I wear pants that I would normally wear to work - ta da - new "outfit" and I can wear it to work afterwards as well LOL. Just hate the prices and the whole process of having to try things on to see if they fit or if they look good on me etc., etc. Hate the whole process!.

I guess I don't see the point of getting my blood pressure up. The aggravation. The lines. The shoving. For what? But it is entertaining to watch.

I'm actually depressed after watching that. WTF is wrong with people......

I am sickened by the videos, tay...........but if there is a silver lining to all this maybe it will come when they get the products home and find they don't work. Most electronic products don't take to well to being stepped on, bashed around and hurled about.

Why anyone would submit themselves to this is way beyond my understanding.

Or being pushed down and stomped on by the hordes behind you. Such wonderful examples of humanity. Good grief.

Not like the old Timex watches that they used to have the men working on the log booms test. Strap them to the caulk boots and wear them for a day on the boom. Anyone know if Timex still adheres to such rigid standards? :) :)

So, my nice looking and pricy Swiss Victorinox watch broke repeatedly, leaked , had it's works replaced (warranty) twice over a decade, and became useless again soon after the expiration of it's ten year warranty. I replaced it with a high end "Expedition" Timex, one of their more expensive (and still a fraction of the cost of the Victorinox) and it is a great, solid, well made, good looking watch with a superior bracelet to the Swiss one. I kick the crap out of myself and my watches and it still keeps ticking.I just feel like a ripped off victim of an old Swiss marketing scam ... er ... scheme. "Swiss time" maybe yes, maybe no.

Video of Black Friday brawl in California goes viral
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
First posted: Sunday, November 27, 2016 09:30 PM EST | Updated: Sunday, November 27, 2016 09:54 PM EST
MODESTO, Calif. — Video of a brawl among deal-hunting shoppers at a crowded Northern California mall has been getting nationwide attention.

The Modesto Bee reports that the video shows a fight among about six men at the Vintage Faire Mall in Modesto on the night of Thanksgiving. The men repeatedly kick and punch each other, with two eventually wrestling on the ground.

The video is being shared widely on social media and had attracted millions of views by Sunday.

Modesto Police Lt. Steve Stanfield says no one called police during the fight and that the department didn’t get any reports of people being injured.

Mall spokeswoman Annie Amies says the fight was resolved quickly with the help of mall security.

The mall opened at 6 p.m. Thanksgiving day.
