Are you all ready to start paying about $15 for a Big Mac?

JLM the only thing difficult is your numbers. The minimum wage going up by a couple bucks is not going to send the cost of
a Big Mac up to 15 dollars. At most the burger will go up a buck or so. Right now in Vancouver a big mac will cost $6.90. I can see the big mac going up to $8.00 in the next six months. I'd like to see the minimum wage go up to about 12 bucks an hour so one making minimum wage could live reasonably. The averag hourly wage in this country is something around $23.00 per hour and we pay only $8.00 per hour as a minimum wage. That is not even reasonable.

I don't see why it is such a difficult concept to understand. Every time minimum wage has increased so far, prices have gone up. So if your wage goes up 10% and your rent goes up 10% what is the point to it? Second I don't think market concerns should be dictated by politicians.

So you are against minimum wage then.....already said that dummy...move along.

... And with all those increases, the bc gvt will make more $$ on pst on all the purchases... The gvt ain't doing this solely on the basis of being wonderful human beings bent on raising the standards for those on minimum wages.

bingo!

Maybe so but Not half as thick as you are. If the widget making proprietor wants to increase his minimum wage because he's sees it's benficial for his business.................no problem, if some newly elected politician thinks she's an expert on the matter after two hours I have a problem with it .......................DUMMY!

That's not bad #Juan. So the average wage is roughly 3 times the minimum, the top wage of the C.E.O.s is 50 or 100 times the average wage.

prices go up anyway JLM always have and always will, wonder what should be done to slow that down,
oh yeah, don't give minimum wage increase, that will solve everything, the time inbetween a raise in the
minimum wage is eons, and the prices have gone up big time for all of that time, did they have to
raise prices for all of those years because they gave the 'last' minimum wage increase, I don't think
so, all of those corporate talking heads would laugh and snicker behind our backs, if they thought
the general public believed that, it would show that we really don't have a clue how 'fat' their
bank acounts are, and how many houses they have, and how many vacations they take, or how many
big gambling trips they take, or how big their yachts are, and how many cars they have, and the
diamonds their wives wear, etc etc.

I follow you Talloola and it sounds good on paper, but the problem is IT WILL NOT WORK. Two weeks ago Christy Clark was one of the most dispised people in British Columbia and then she said something people wanted to hear so now she is a hero. She don't fool me. Anyway Talloola there are more important fish to fry at the moment................the Canucks and Phoenix. I'm betting on the Canucks..................LOL

You are talking about two different things. The C.E.O.'s remuneration is often based on the performance of the company. The C.E.O. could have millions of dollars invested in the company. If the company makes a profit he makes a profit.

Yes, she did exactly that, and her 'method of madness' is obvious, BUT I don't care, the minimum
wage will be raised, and it's long overdue.
She is doing something to get votes, and she will get those votes, and I don't care
about that either, I just care that the people who need that raise, will get it.

Sorry but nobody is worth what some of these CEOs get. If there is enough profit to give somebody a million or two bonus there is enough to pay your staff more than $8/hr. I don't know of any exec that doesn't have a fantastic base salary. Maybe they should owe the company money if it loses money.

What makes it even worse is that f-ing CEO takes his million bucks to some investment bank in the Caymans and doesn't pay taxes on it while us average working stiffs give up 65% of every dollar in some form of tax or another.

Taxes, aren't they wonderful? Yes the Canadian dollar is worth more that the American dollar, but can it buy any more? If only it were possible us to shop anywhere we want and only pay the local tax. (buy a car in the U.S. (pay State sales tax) and not have to pay Canadian sales taxes road or otherwise or vice versa. Now the minimum wage in Canada will be going up to $10.25. It may make those getting it feel better, but the cost of doing business will negate that feeling pretty quick. That 65% of ever dollar you pay is what is killing you. I know we in the U.S. will be catching up soon if the present administration has their way. Where do you control the cost of doing business.

MC Donalds in Regina pays over $12 an hour.

Two double cheeseburgers cost a whopping tree pippty pie. ($3.55 if you don't understand Flip accents)

How much in BC at $8 an hour?

Not all C.E.O.s are crooks. It's not as easy as you think to plunk your money off shore, before taxes, unless you are an organized criminal getting enrecorded drug dollars out from under the gaze of law enforcement.

Maybe not but I'll bet there's a lot of poor folks who would jump at the chance to try it once.

There are far more valuable items than drugs that have cash value and are portable.

Actually, prices have often gone up BEFORE the minimum wage goes up... you just weren't paying attention. Confirmation bias. The economy starts climbing, making the minimum wage jobs below where they can reasonably live, and then during that climb the gov ups min wage. The economic climb doesn't stop, and you look only at the tail end of it to confirm your assumption.

Exactly!

The minimum wage in B.C. was the lowest in the country and people were suffering because of it. A lot of businesses don't want the minimum wage raised because it cuts into their profits. I would like the M.W, to be at least a living wage. The solution of course is not to have to live on minimum wage but not all of us can do that.
