Are CUPE and CUPW considered terrorists?

I was reading an interesting article in the National Post, which is about the academic members. Canadian Union of Public Employees or CUPE Ontario work at University of Toronto. http://www.nationalpost.com/opinion/story.html?id=1338529&p=1

It is an opinion piece from one of the CUPE members sending a petition to the leader Sid Ryan that he should resign because Sid and other high-ranking CUPE members have decided to boycott Israel and have escalated to boycott Israel’s academic institutions.

They go on to say that both violate the authority with which they have been entrusted and, worse, undermine academic freedoms

I include the Canadian Union of Postal Workers or CUPW in this because they past a boycott of Israel late last year at their national convention.

Now these unions are always talking about solidarity of their brothers and sisters but this obviously does not include their Jewish brothers and sisters.

I had an opportunity to talk to a union rep who was a shop steward at a Canadian postal facility while I was taking care of some business and I asked him why is his union boycotting Israel and he told me that the membership voted for it at the convention but it was a close vote where it won by five or six per cent.

According to the article this act is going far beyond what a union was intended for, which I believe is to represent the membership to negotiate the best possible contract and protect workers rights while the contract is in place and legally represent fired members for carrying out their union responsibilities.

The union was never intended for the funding of terrorists activities with money paid by member’s union dues.

CUPE and CUPW will have to bear the responsibility of lost jobs due to the public perception that they are a racist organization and where will this end who will be next on their list of people to boycott will it be the gays or the blacks or women this will never stop.

The union once believed in solidarity what happened, why did the unions throw it out?

I agree whole-heartly with both Socrates on the role of unions (been a union guy all my life) and with Petros (!) on the stupidity of the union NOT being terrorism.....

Terrorists? A bit extreme don't you think. Sorry but when I look at your avatar, it gives me the chills and makes me think of terror far more than any union.

Terrorist

One who governs by terrorism or intimidation

You might just have a point Liberalman....
Just what I was thinking. lol
Correct me if I am wrong but I think unions were developed to make better relations between employees and employers. Some places don't need unions because the employer is fair, others don't need unions but have them anyway, some places need unions but don't have them, and some have them and still need them.

Perhaps if Muslim terrorists weere blowing up people in Canada these unions would not be so quick to protect them and show their racism against jews.

Though I don't agree with many of the Israeli government's policies, the Israeli people as such should not be punished for it.
