A hotel clerk has been shot after a man tried to rob the front desk at a Saskatoon hotel.
At around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday night, a man walked into Senator Hotel packing loaded gun.
He demanded money from the clerk working the front desk.
That ignited a struggle between the clerk and the 30-year-old man. The 33-year-old clerk was
shot in the hand.
“The staff member then began struggling with the suspect and during that struggle the gun
went off, striking the victim in the hand,” said Alyson Edwards, spokesperson for the
Saskatoon Police Service.
Customers and staff in the building intervened at this point and held the suspect until police
could get there. The suspect is in hospital with serious injuries, according to Edwards.
“There were injuries consistent with a physical beating,” she said.
The clerk’s injuries are not life-threatening. Both of them were taken to hospital.
The suspect was arrested and is under guard. Police are investigating the incident.
The underlining above is mine. I first heard about this on the radio earlier this morning.
No charges have been laid against anyone involved by the Saskatoon Police Service
yet, as they're still sorting things out to decide who's going to be charged with what.
