A western Canada party The Western Bloc and Quebec’s Bloc is joined by The Newfoundland and Labrador First Party.

Prime Minister Harper is probably regretting his decision to abandon one of his campaign promises.

Who would have thought the Conservative party would break their promises?

I sure didn’t.

I don’t like Conservative policies and after a Conservative win I know what is to come because Conservatives don’t usually break their promises let me rephrase the Progressive Conservatives did what they said they would do.

This is the Reform Alliance dominated Conservative party I see now it makes sense.

Below is what the NL First party beliefs.

The Newfoundland and Labrador First Party will work on both the Provincial as well as the Federal fronts on order to make the difference that we as Newfoundlanders and Labradorians all deserve. We will work hard:

· to restore government services in rural communities
· to stop out migration
· for rural rights
· maintain our way of life and culture
· restore our traditional hunting and fishing rights
· for joint management of our fishery

The Newfoundland and Labrador First Party is committed to presenting a united front to the Federal Government and the people of Canada on issues of extreme importance to our future. Beyond the Fair Deal our provincial government has made with the Atlantic Accord, there are still issues to address:

· Utilize Article 76 of the Law of the Sea to extend the current 200 mile limit to 350 miles
· Joint management of the Fishery
· A plan to rebuild the cod stocks
· Integrated transportation and tourism initiatives
· Development of the Lower Churchill in keeping with section 92 and 92 A of The Constitution Act, 1867/1982
· Federal political reforms to increase equity among the provinces and territories

The work is just beginning. We Must Not Back Down. We call on every Newfoundlander and Labradorian to take action. Pride alone cannot effect change. We must work together towards our common goal of a Fair Deal.

Liberalman. Where does it say in their party platform that they are a separatist party. Regionalist, without a doubt! But separatist? Are you sure you're not just trying to sensationalize this?

Honestly, though, I think more regionalist parties might be a good thing. They'd push for more decentralization.

We have the actions of liberals like Trudeau and Cretin to thank for the creation of western separatism. As well as several of their predicessors to a lessor extent that wrote laws to prevent BC from competing with Ontario and Quebec in manufacturing. To be fair eastern conservatives must share some of the blame for not fixing the problems the few times they were in power. Mostly the Feds only come west when they want to steal something.

I don't see anything here that leads to separation. The points listed above are fair and noble causes. If that's their platform then I say go for it....hell ya. The last one might even help out other provinces who don't have a strong voice in Canada.

This is not a separatist party. However, there is a significant separatist population in NF. From my experience I believe there is more support for separation in Newfoundland than there is in Alberta.

[....]To be fair eastern conservatives must share some of the blame for not fixing the problems the few times they were in power. Mostly the Feds only come west when they want to steal something.

If western separatists want to blame the federal liberal party for their malcontent then I think they should have the brains to admit that the all parties have failed them as well. We do have opposition parties, no? Now, you say "eastern conservatives" should have fixed the problem and are partly to blame. Are there no western representatives in this country? I'm sure there must be a few liberals or conservatives running in elections out there. I guess western conservatives are just as ineffective as eastern liberals.
------------------------------------------------------------

On that note, I somewhat agree with a previous post which stated that we need more regional parties. I think we need better regional representation at the federal level. I can see these provincial parties not working well together though.
