So what you are telling me is that you are considering becoming a Red Tory jackass????????????????

Is THAT really what you are telling me?
I'm not 'telling you' anything. I don't like McKay and from what I see lately he's not fairing so well in his campaign. I am hoping that someone in the party will come forward with policies that I can support. I am in a wait and see mode right now.

If they choose someone who lets the media set the agenda they are toast .

Looks like John Baird may run. Of all the current people in the race he’d get my vote.

Conservative leadership candidate Erin O'Toole would slash funding, privatize CBC English TV and digital

OTTAWA — Conservative leadership candidate Erin O’Toole is promising to effectively end CBC’s English-language public broadcasting operation, except for radio. But he says he won’t cut Radio-Canada, CBC’s French-language division.

CBC is a popular target during Conservative leadership races, as multiple candidates in the 2017 race had also taken aim at the public broadcaster’s news division. In total, CBC receives $1.2 billion in operating and capital funding from the government each year, and adds about $500 million in advertising, subscription fees, and other revenue sources.

O’Toole released a video Friday morning where he promised to cut all funding to CBC’s English-language digital operations, slash the English TV budget by 50 per cent, and aim to privatize the English TV operation by the end of his first mandate in government.

“The world of broadcast media has changed dramatically, but our public broadcaster is stuck in the past,” O’Toole said in the video.

“When the CBC was created in the 1930s, it was an early way to connect the vast Dominion of Canada. Radio and later TV broadcasts were new and often the only way to connect the nation and tell our story.

“Almost a century later, Canadians are connected to the world with the swipe of their finger. They carry their own broadcast studio in their pocket and have unlimited streaming options 24/7.”

O’Toole said he would leave English-language radio alone, noting it is “commercial-free and delivers public interest programming from coast to coast.”

“We will also preserve Radio-Canada, which plays an important role connecting Quebecers and francophones across Canada in their own language,” he said.

O’Toole went on to attack the Liberals for increasing CBC’s operating funding after they were elected in 2015. The 2016 federal budget promised an extra $150 million annually for the CBC through 2021. That more than reversed the cuts imposed by Stephen Harper’s Conservative government, which in 2012 had slashed CBC funding by $115 million over three years.

Earlier, O’Toole promised to also end the federal government’s aid package for print media, which totals $595 million over five years in tax breaks and measures to help non-profit media organizations.

During the 2017 leadership race, some candidates — including Kellie Leitch and Brad Trost — promised to outright scrap the CBC’s news operations. But O’Toole’s comments go substantially further than what the frontrunners in the 2017 race had pledged to do.

Maxime Bernier had promised to “streamline” the CBC’s mandate, and to make it ad-free and more reliant on fundraising (similar to PBS in the United States). Andrew Scheer was more vague in his comments, saying “news is one thing I never believed the government should be in,” but didn’t propose a detailed plan for the CBC.

A few months before the 2019 federal election, Scheer only said he would review the CBC’s operations to ensure more focus on Canadian news coverage.

CBC down billions after losing rights to Hockey Night in Canada

The CBC no longer has the rights to their highest rated program—Hockey Night in Canada. This is a big loss for CBC and will cost them over $2 billion throughout twelve years, according to Blacklock’s Reporter.

The information was provided through an internal federal memo. Though the company’s ad revenues have been falling, in a confidential report, CBC noted that it continues to be “the cornerstone of culture and democracy.”

Last year, in a briefing note for Pablo Rodriguez, the previous Heritage Minister, CBC staff wrote, “CBC Television lost its long-standing flagship sports broadcast Hockey Night In Canada which had been part of the broadcaster’s programming lineup for fifty-five years.”The contract was bought by Rogers Inc. in 2013 and cost the communications company $5.2 billion. The contract is good until 2026.

Thee department estimated the corporation’s annual advertising revenues decreased by approximately $175 million” the briefing not continued, “as a result of losing the Hockey Night In Canada contract.”

The approximate decrease of $175 million in annual revenue adds to a loss of $2.1 billion over 12 years.

Hockey Night in Canada brought in over one million weekly viewers to CBC. In 2015, CBC’s president Hubert Lacroix noted, “We have not lost hundreds of millions of dollars on the hockey contract,” and added, “We lost a few dollars.'

When you look at the broadcasting rights and the cost to produce hockey, and the revenues on the other side, and when you look at it over six years, we didn’t make money on this contract,” Lacroix testified to the Senate communications committee in 2015. Senator Michael MacDonald responded, “If you can’t make money on hockey in Canada, I don’t know what you could make money on. This was very poor management.”

CBC’s previous executive vice president, Richard Stursberg noted, “The loss of hockey is going to have serious financial consequences. You not only lose the profits from hockey, you also lose your capacity to sell the rest of your advertising at reasonable prices.”

“The way you would do it is you’d say, ‘If you would like to have hockey, then you have to buy this dog over here that nobody wants.’ I would say, ‘But I don’t want the dog,’ and you would say: ‘I’m sorry, you have to take the dog if you want the hockey,’” Stursberg continued.

So, hockey is not only important in its own right, it’s important because it props up the rest of the advertising sales.”

A parliamentary grant of $1.2 billion is CBC’s principal source of revenue. Last year, the network saw a decline of 37 percent in ad revenues.

Our idiot Boy Justin has ABANDONED ANY REAL EFFORT to govern Canada!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He is just out screwing around keeping out of sight and................................

SO HE PRAYS - STAYING AWAY FROM BLAME as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

His hope are BEING DASHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw Our idiot Boy Justin on the CBC News at noon today - that would be February 14, 2020 answering various put to him by tame CBC UNIFOR UNION HOGS - giving his usual vague and irrelevant answers and it occurred to me he has given up trying to govern Canada!!!!!!!!!!!!

YES - it is truly remarkable how many answers he can give that DO NOT address the question being asked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And for those who take issue with me describing CBC UNIFOR members as either HOGS or media whores - we have only to look at how easily the unionized mob of media whores WERE SATISFIED WITH IRRELEVANT AND MEANINGLESS PLATITUDES in answer to SPECIFIC QUESTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our idiot Boy was asked about the native blockades that are starting to criple our economy and he told us that THE DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER has been in touch with the provincial premiers and other stake holders and is discussing the matter!!!

Because Our idiot Boy far to busy chasing that elusive United Nations security Council Seat he covet - and DOES NOT wish to be bothered with petty stuff like dealing with radical insurrection closing down major portions of our transportation network!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our idiot Boy looked into the camer and told us the situation is quite complex and there are multiple stakeholders who must be heard and he went on to insist repeatedly that “Canada is a nation ruled by laws and the govt does not tell police
how to do their jobs”!!!!!!!!!!

This answer prompted a question about assorted court injunctions that HAVE BEEN OBTAINED by the cops but have not yet been enforced and why is that???

And our idiot Boy reiterated his statement about the rule of law- which begs the question as to WHY some Cdns are free to make their own laws??????????

Our idiot Boy then went on to talk about his trip to Africa and the opportunities he saw there - for sponsoring trade and education and other good things in places like Ethiopia and Cameroon and Niger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently Our idiot boy has decided that sponsoring trade and education in Canada is not nearly rewarding enough nd he wants to enter this new African political arena???????????????

Or maybe he is hoping that the illiteracy and language difficulties that many Africans work with will also help to LIMIT the number of nasty questions he is asked at media scrums in future???????????????

The idiot Boy was then asked about the VERY WARM GREETING he offered to the Iranian Foreign Minister who has just arrived in Canada and the reporter suggested it might LOOK BAD to Cdns to offer such a warm welcome to the representative of a regime that had just MURDERED 57 Cdns?????????

And Our idiot Boy offered his usual pious platitudes about how often he has pressed Iran for a full investigation into the “ACCIDENT” that befell that Ukrainian aircraft that was deliberately shot down by Iran!!!!!!!!!!!

Another question led to a discussion of civil rights in various African countries and it led to Our idiot Boy assuring us that he brings up civil rights where ever he goes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And some ink stained media mean mouth then quoted one of the African leaders Trudope had just met - telling the media that HOMOSEXUALITY IS A SIN and not permited in his land and etc - the usual homophobic litany that Our idiot Boy claims to DEPLORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And yet Our idiot Boy is hoping to win a Security Council Seat - with the support of his homophobic African supporters who are willing to publicly repudiate Trudope opinions re the rights of homosexuals and transgender citizens!!!!!!!!!!!

One wonders how many hundreds of millions of dollars in Cdn foreign aid would be required to persuade African leaders to knock off the gay bashing for a while in order to please Our idiot Boy??

In other news - Norway is also vying for one of the Security Council Seats and that country has been giving FIVE HUNDRED PERCENT MORE FOREIGN AID to Africa that Canada does - and the Norwegian govt does not send representatives to African countries to try the patience of African leaders by spouting crap about promoting gay rights in countries where being gay is still criminal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In related news - Our idiot Boy told the assembled media whores that “the United Nations is the most important descision making body in the world today”!!!!!!!!

Which statement suggests that Trudope interest in the activities of the Cdn parliament HAS FADED BADLY in recent months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shall we blame the Trudope focus on the U.N. on the refusal of cdns to offer the idiot Boy another Majority Govt????????????????

It does seem as if Our idiot Boy has decided that settling Cdn disagreements is worse than wrangling Cats and has decided to leave us to stew in our own collective bile??????????????????

Canadians ridicule Scheer’s ‘privilege’ comments after discovering $925,000 in expenses covered by the Conservative Party

New-found attention on his expenses after Conservative Party refuses to disclose spending

The Leader of the Conservative Party is under fire again, this time for his comments telling Indigenous Canadians and protesters to “check their privilege.” Scheer was initially blasted for the racist undertones of his comments. Perry Bellegarde, National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, took Scheer to task for the absurdity of his photo-op moment.

‘We have to clarify [Andrew Scheer’s] statement.
is it the privilege of 1200 missing murdered indigenous woman & girls that Mr. Scheer was referring to?

You can’t make statements that pit groups of people against groups of people pic.twitter.com/NSdzLJiEiA

Others pointed out the hypocrisy of Scheer making such comments given the privileged and affluent life he enjoys.
Check your privilege. Andrew Scheer is a taxpayer trust fund millionaire who lives in a 34 room mansion with cooks, drivers, maids, and other taxpayer funded staff. He has earned over $6M+ in wages and gold plated taxpayer funded pension. A life of privilege. #cdnpoli #cdnmedia

Andrew Scheer says protesters need to "check their privilege".
And then he says "excuse me, I need to call my chauffeur to pick up my kids at their private school and bring them home to our free rental so our chef can cook them a light lunch of quail and chocolate milk."

Leader-in-waiting Peter (To the Chopper!) Mackay already put his foot in it by tweeting some nonsense about storming the barricades - he deleted the tweet at the first sign of problems.

When are the conservatives going to find their own Trump who will openly embrace all the deplorables?

It's deadline day for Conservative leadership candidates - so who's in?

The first deadline for qualifying to be a candidate to replace Andrew Scheer as Conservative leader passes at 5 p.m. ET today.

As of end of day Thursday, seven candidates had met the first eligibility requirements. In order of their approval by the party, they are:

  • Peter MacKay, former minister of justice, foreign affairs and national defence in Prime Minister Stephen Harper's cabinet, Nova Scotia MP from 1997 to 2015 and the last leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada.
  • Erin O'Toole, former minister of veterans affairs, MP for the Ontario riding of Durham since 2012 and third-place finisher in the 2017 Conservative leadership race.
  • Leslyn Lewis, lawyer, unsuccessful Conservative candidate in the 2015 federal election in the Ontario riding of Scarborough–Rouge Park.
  • Marilyn Gladu, MP for the Ontario riding of Sarnia–Lambton since 2015.
  • Derek Sloan, MP for the Ontario riding of Hastings–Lennox and Addington since 2019.
  • Jim Karahalios, anti-carbon tax activist who filed a lawsuit against the Ontario PC Party alleging the contest for the provincial party presidency had been rigged against him.
  • Rick Peterson, businessman, finished 12th in the 2017 leadership race.

The last candidate on the list is the only contender from the West. He's an AB businessman. I am not jumping for joy right now.

Is that so bad? Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon both came from the Left Coast, and Donald Trump is from the People's Republic of New York.

There are conservatives even in Ontario and Quebec. And I'm finding it hard to believe they don't pay attention to the big square provinces, seeing as how that's where most of their support is.
