As if Things Weren't Bad Enough, Russian Professor Predicts End of U.S.

In Moscow, Igor Panarin's Forecasts Are All the Rage; America 'Disintegrates' in 2010

By ANDREW OSBORN

MOSCOW -- For a decade, Russian academic Igor Panarin has been predicting the U.S. will fall apart in 2010. For most of that time, he admits, few took his argument -- that an economic and moral collapse will trigger a civil war and the eventual breakup of the U.S. -- very seriously. Now he's found an eager audience: Russian state media.
Igor Panarin

In recent weeks, he's been interviewed as much as twice a day about his predictions. "It's a record," says Prof. Panarin. "But I think the attention is going to grow even stronger."
Prof. Panarin, 50 years old, is not a fringe figure. A former KGB analyst, he is dean of the Russian Foreign Ministry's academy for future diplomats. He is invited to Kremlin receptions, lectures students, publishes books, and appears in the media as an expert on U.S.-Russia relations.
But it's his bleak forecast for the U.S. that is music to the ears of the Kremlin, which

That's probably because he thinks there is going to be the NAU! If that ever happens, it would only make this continent stronger in regard to Russia. Can't see Canada giving in to the USA. Maybe the USA will be gone because all the states will be provinces! Ya gotta like that (as long as you are a Canadian)

"prophets" abound.
Some people think everything will end in 2012 so the US ending in 2010 is not a biggie. lol
Les, to some people the world is ending "tomorrow" and that's been going on forever! I guess someday it might.

Well who knows, maybe he is right.
One thing we do know for sure is that Russia is falling apart considerably faster than the United States.
Last time I was there the whole place was coming apart at the seams.

Democracy and rule of law is failing.

The Kremlin is running out of money at a record pace.
Pretty much all state spending is funded by oil exports and that is well and truly in the crapper.
Most state spending has been on the military and as a result infrastructure is in terrible shape.
Big oil has all been driven out by state sponsored mafia.
Oil and gas production is dropping fast, reinvestment is nil.
Just like Chavez the Russians are begging the big oil, high tech crowd to return.
Never happen, not under Putin or Chavez.

The Chinese and the Indians are going to go right past the Russians and it's not going to take very long.

So I guess you cant really blame the Russians for trying to make themselves feel a little better by wishing ill on others.

Whathisname ah yes.... Berlin, also predicted things go kaput depending on with type of freedom we sought after post Soviet break up. Negative Freedom or positive Freedom. Our society is enemy drive to give us a goal. Without an enemy our brand of freedom has no aim, or no unifying drive which always leads to a division of society into no middle class. This will always lead to tyranny (using force to spread a defined type of freedom).

USA will be around a lot longer than Russia. There is no mechanism for the states to secede from USA. On the contrary, they fought a civil war, rather than let the South go.

Nobody is talking of breaking away from USA (I understand there is a small faction in Vermont who wants to secede). I don’t see USA breaking up.

The forecast by this Russian must be the musings of one who is now worrying about his own country as well. I have a close freind who flies a large freghter aircraft into Russia on a scheduled basis. He says the people who are unloading the cargo are usually incarcerated inmates under military type supevision. That has to tell us something if the use of prisoners in this way is routine. Unemployment is an issue in Russia just like it is in the US. Who know? Maybe they both go down.

Norm, no country has a greater prison population than the USA and no country has greater commercial explotation of it's prison population than the USA.
