It's true. The only people sewing Canadian flags on their backpacks are Canadians. Not because they want to show where they are from but to show where they are not from.

Oh yeah... that's what it is. What is it when an American wears a flag pin or flies the flag? National pride. But no, Canadians can't possibly have THAT, because YOU think everything we're proud of is less than what YOU have.

I think that the luggage thing and back pack thing are far different than flying a flag or wearing a pin.

I am sure Canadians are proud to be Canadian...you should be. But you know exactly what I am getting at and responding to and you know it had nothing to do with me saying Canadians do not have pride in their country.

I think the British began using the word "American" for the people of the USA

To this day they still use the appelation (or shortening of the phrase USA) to describe the individual statehoods grouped into one nation.

Topics like this seem a bit "old maid" and "waspy" when being discussed on a forum of intelligent people - but whatever brightens your day it doesn't change much in the real world.
The number of times I have seen it discussed on forums is well into the thirties by now.

Such diligence for keeping it alive and "well".

Let us be totally absurd, but totally correct:

People who live in Canada from this day henceforth shall be called "Northern North Americans".

People who live in the United States shall be called "Central North Americans".

People who live south of the Rio Grande and north of the Panama Canal shall be known as "Southern North Americans".

That leaves those who live in South America. Any suggestions what to call them in a geographically an politically correct way?

In the interest of geographical precision I have to object to your classification system YukonJack.

The centre of North America is STILL Canada. The US falls below the centre, thus making them Southern North Americans.

This entire thread is a futile excercise in non-productive and silly nitpicking.

But for accuracy, karrie, tell me who should be referred to as "Northern North Americans"?
Perhaps the Territories? Where would Edmonton fit in? Or Churchill, MB?

Nah, it'll suffice to break it into North and South. lol.

But, in all seriousness... I think Winnipeg was just trolling to stir up ridiculousness. This is his second thread on the subject. Two threads from someone who don't seem to understand that the continent isn't called America anyway... how frustrating.
