I say we should do that...especially after they bully us with Missle Defence,Beef and softwood lumber. They always loose at NAFTA, WTO but they won't pay back illegeal duties they collected on Lumber or Pay their Electricity bill California owes BC Hydro. Some friends America is....
Also if you or I did not pay our Hydro bill for well over a year we would be cut off, so why shouldn't America (California) be cut off?

Does it? It sounds to me like you're afraid, Eagleshat. Why else would you be at a Canadian site trying to spread your lies and hatred?
Its only a matter of time before there is a the run on this paper it will only take a country like Venezaula to start selling off there bonds and then the run will start you will see the dollar drop like a stone and intrest rates in the us will go through the roof .
My personal guess is that Chavez will get the rest of OPEC to switch to the Euro. He has several members onside and the only country reportedly not wavering at all is Saudi Arabia. Even the new government of Iraq is said to be considering a switch.

Hola, dear Mr. Blair. No, that is not what I said (no idea how ya got that from my post, but whatevah). Although, that appears to be more along the lines of what 'MrMom2' was implying by his facetious, as well as fastuous, post.
My point, in reference to MrMom2's post, was if we are in such dire straits as a country, maybe we should call in all the billions of $$$'s loaned to many of the sorry ass(hole) countries that we have accomodated.

Actually it's just 0.14-0.16% of their GDP. Last year, the US only gave 16 billion dollars to foreign aid, as where they should be giving 80 billion dollars according to the agreements they made in Rio de Janeiro in the early '90s (OECD). Which means that when we are just talking about last year (2004), the US gave 64 billion dollars less in foreign aid as they promised they should do.Reverend Blair said:

The number of 0.14% where 0.70% of the GDP should be given to foreign aid was not only last year. In fact, from the early nineties when they signed the OECD-agreement, the US has not been above the 0.2%-line for what I know, not even during the booming late nineties when the sky wasn't even the limit, economically speaking.

That's a typo in my post, Ricky...it's supposed to .16%, as you noted, not 1.6%.
Jimmy....most of the loans the US has out were given under the coercive requirements of the World Bank. There are growing questions as to whether such loans are even legal. Even if they are though, the terms have no provision for a demand payment.
The fact remains that the US owes more than it is owed, and that the debt is growing massively every day. It is not sustainable, especially given the tenuous political situation the Bush government has placed the USA in.
Eaglebrain...If Canada were to cut off energy, US industry would stop within a week. Your most industrialized areas are dependent on Canadian oil, natural gas, and electricity. There are plenty of other markets for the oil and gas, and we can use the electricity ourselves. Those are facts, little buddy...not bluster from some jingoistic fool like yourself.
