Why the anger, Said1? It has been said many a time on this forum that being against the war in Iraq and being against many of the foreign policies of the United States makes one anti American, a leftist, or someone who WISHES terrorist acts upon the US. This is jargon that is thrown out to divert discussion from the actual item in question- that of US foreign policy. I am certainly not the most eloquent poster on this forum, and I have not yet learned how to put in links- I am trying to learn this, but this does not make me an empty bubble head blonde as you seem to suggest. I am well read on the issues of American policy and why you would pick on me instead of DB, Caracal Kid, aeon, etc, is an interesting question?

I'm not angry, not in the least. I'm simply pointing out similarities.
I did not suggest that you were a bubble head, I said that your contribution, in this particular thread up to that point was equal to Jay's.

I'm sorry if you feel picked on, I would expect the same to be said of myself, if I responded to what you call lack of analysis and solid position with virutally the same thing. Although, I will say I know your stance is anti-war and anti-US-government, not anti-American as is Beaver's and Aeon etc. I've read their posts, along with their reasonings. I also know that Jay's is the opposite as he's stated that many times.

Personally, I think the situation in Iraq was inevitable - pre-emptive attack or not....the wolves were at Saddam's door, civil unrest imminent.

That's only because you've presented almost zero challenge lately. As I said, you've lost your edge. Meaning, I think your OK too. :p

unfortunately---bush is not the problem
americas murder-suicide rampage is driven by deeper institutional structures that operate regardless of who is in power

what we are witnessing --is the beginning of the decline of a people that COULD have been great---
the imperial overreach
the lost of industrial capacity
the reckless wastefull spending on uselesss wars
debt--big time debt
the amnesia
the denial
the slow erosion of civil liberties
the inability to achieve--military objectives
ie-- their westward expansion stopped by china-during the korean war
and by vietnam
the inability to contain emerging powers
internal centripedal racial-ethnic conflicts
cultural nihilism

its nothing personal
its happened before
many times
each--- empire ----has a finite lifespan

criticism of america--- cant just be based on
resentiment
for much of the criticism
maybe even most of it
comes from within the nation itself

in a sense these heated exchanges
the left vs the right
on these forums
in the media
etc
are a symptom of deep internal divisions
in our society
and in a sense also a symptom of decline
not a healhy dialogue or discussion
it just marks out -- what side we would be on if ---civil war were to break out

Hhhmmmm. Ok. I assert that one of the key elements of successful liberal democracy is freer markets. So there. Put that in your pipe and smoke it. :p

Let's see a few of my favs: Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order, The Wealth and Poverty of Nations, Essence of Decision, Man the State and War, and Sweet Valley high #14. I refer to these books quite a bit, not so much because they're policy oriented, but theory oriented, which shapes policy, especially Sweet Valley High!

On American Policy- that what you were quoting from me.

That's too broad, narrow it down. Middle East? Latin America? Terrorism?

Start with the Breton Woods insitutions: The International Monetary Fund, the now re-named World Bank and GATT. No actually, fuzzy can start from there.

Yup, Yup, good classics, Said1. I approve. Except for Sweet Valley high. I think I only read up to # 4 before I started moving on.

I of course, didnt expect you or ITN to list Chomsky , but I am ceratinly not afraid to list all of his as superb references. I do assume you have read them. I also found these good references:
The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers (Kennedy)
Blowback ( Johnson)
Open Veins of Latin America (Galeano)
Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace (Vidal)
War (Gwynne Dyer)
A Peoples History of the United States (Zinn)
The Unconscious Civilization (Raul)
War is A force that Gives us Meaning (Hedges)
Hiroshima in America (Lifton and Mitchell)
Voltaires Bastards (Ralston Saul)
The Kingdom, House of Sa'ud

So what did youlike best about Man the State and War?

Or can we stop pissing now?

Like I said, no one suggested you were an air head, that's something you keep bringing up.

Yeah, this is a ridiculous cat fight, Said1. You are obviously a well read intellectual, and I appreciate your posts. I suspect your studies have been in the political fields. This is not my area of study, but as you can see, I do have a sincere interest in world history and events.

However if you really want to get competitive, Ill start listing all my art books, and youll really lose out there.....(smile) Let alone my PEOPLE magazines.

I sense that you are a bit of a leftie yourself, so lets work together!

Hmmm, that's rather presumptious of you, don't you think?

I have read Chomsky, Manufacturing Consent, Rogue States, to name a couple and I just ordered his new book Failed States. I have also attended a couple of his lecturers and a DVD documentary, Distorted Morality.

I have also read the two books in bold above.

Your list of books also leads me to believe you only read the books that feed your bias. I wouldn't quite call that well read.

Free market is oxymoronic, do you mean free capital?
Nothing is free in the market and you can't get something cheaper than free.
Free capital runs wild and eats indiscriminantly, everything.
That was a short smoke with no buzz. :)
