Now that one I remember vividly. I always had a lot of respect for him in how he turned his own grief into such a positive thing, bringing a lot of other people closure I think.
yes he helped a lot of people over the years

the story i am remembering isn't the retired couple, it was the johnson and bentley families, 6 of them,
camping in wells grey park, way back in the 80's i think, and they were all killed by the lunatic who
lived out there in the bush somewhere.

then as the years went by, other stories surfaced of other people killed in the wilderness, including
the retired couple a few years back, i wonder what ever happened to them, whomever did them in, is
still out there somewhere.
hey that one nudges some memories... it was a super nice camping area with wood lean-to covers I think

hm back to the fearful thoughts again...somehow it was more comforting to believe gramma and poppa took him with them...I truly hope they are coping with this okay and that who ever took them comes to their senses before they reach that fork in the road where there is no going back

Just heard that myself.

My heart sunk when I first heard that. :(

Now that truck is distinctive. Not many like that on the road today.
You can be sure they are running the registries. Not only in AB.
That's what a lot of people are saying. Surely someone know who owns the truck, even if it's someone whom they don't believe would ever be involved in such an event, at least they can be eliminated by the police. If someone was in medical distress on Monday, time could be of the essence.

Me too and I'm not having a very good feeling, I hate to think.

Police say it's become "less of a mystery". I wonder if the grandparents have abducted their grandson and made it look like a stranger abduction...or a cover up for a horrendous accident. I'm guessing there are no strangers involved.

Police say disappearance is less of a mystery going into fifth day

Sorry Twila, that would be a nice theory (under the circumstances) but no way I'm afraid. It's sinister, best we can hope for is one or more survivors! Possibly another case like that David Shearing from Clearwater................God Forbid!

I was hopeful but now think they are most likely dead unfortunately

As for Shearing, he came up for parole a few years back. It would seem he is beginning to learn how to play the game after 30 years of confinement because he finally apologized....took him 30 years.

And listen to this: "The National Parole Board ruled Shearing, who now goes by his mother's maiden name, Ennis, still has violent sexual fantasies, hasn't completed sex offender treatment and is not ready for freedom".

But he can apply for parole and waste hours of time and tax payers money. It's ridiculous that he can apply for parole he still has five life sentences to carry out and he is up there like a circus clown pleading for freedom.

AND guess who got married in prison: "He was joined by his supporters, including his wife of 18 years, Heather Ennis. The two were married while he was behind bars. She said he is a changed man."

Wonder if she would still feel that way as he was stuffing her half conscious, beaten, raped and violated body into his car trunk like he did with his victims?

Well, it seems as though they've confirmed at least that the property search yesterday was indeed related to this case.

Where is Nathan O'Brien? Police searching for signs of missing boy and his grandparents

Bill Graveland, The Canadian Press
Published Sunday, July 6, 2014 8:10AM EDT
AIRDRIE, Alta. -- A search is expected to continue today at an acreage northeast of Calgary in connection with the disappearance of a five-year-old boy and his grandparents.
Both RCMP and Calgary police investigators combed through the acreage yesterday, on a tree-lined driveway near Airdrie, a bedroom community north of Calgary.
Acting on a tip police arrived at the property late Friday night and found a green Ford F-150 truck similar to one spotted in a video near the home of Alvin and Kathy Liknes.

A man was taken into custody and is described as a "person of interest".
Five-year-old Nathan O'Brien and his grandparents disappeared from their Calgary home on Monday after the couple had been holding an estate sale.
Police confirmed Friday that there was evidence that a violent incident had occurred in the Liknes' Calgary home.
The search of the Airdrie property was likely to continue throughout the weekend, police suggested.
"Given the size of the property police will likely be there for the next 24 to 36 hours," said Calgary Police Duty Inspector Joel Matthews.
About 20 officers had been doing a grid search late Saturday afternoon and into the evening before calling it quits for the night.
Matthews cautioned that the public should not read too much into the person of interest being taken into custody.
"We're questioning the man and following the lead on the vehicle just to further the investigation," Matthews said.
"It's simply a lead we are following up. Our investigators are going to follow every lead that we believe has some weight. Due to the sensitivity of the investigation we just want to make sure we cover everything off."

Me too and I'm not having a very good feeling, I hate to think.

Neither am I. When horrible and mysterious crimes like this occur and we follow the case, I find myself on pins and needles waiting to hear the next report. It's more than curiosity though, I think (as in this case) the public feels such a real connection to the situation because of the circumstances. I mean, what could possibly be more normal for most people than having a sleepover at Grandma and Grandpa's house right? I would imagine it would have been a similar feeling to what would have been felt during Adam Walsh's abduction (as we were speaking of John Walsh in the thread earlier), at the time what could have been more normal for most people than to have their child in the play area at the local mall when they are shopping.

So I find myself rather anxiously awaiting the next revelation and then I'll think about how, if I'm feeling this anxious, what must the parents be going through. And I know that I can even begin to imagine the hell that is their existence right now.

That bastard should NEVER see the light of day, Sal, and what's with the f**king justice system allowing marriage in prison? That is as sick as he is.

I don't have a problem with allowing the marriage to happen...meh, a bit more torture for him and what he is missing out on I guess, and I am about treating all prisoners humanely regardless of their crime ... but they must remain incarcerated...but I am miffed about the parole thing...really...he is never getting out, so why the expensive sham?

he isn't sorry he did it, he is sorry he got caught...I might be wrong but even if he is sorry, it is meaningless

My brain has run away with me on this. I keep thinking of the most positive possibility and then the next news blurb dashes that and brings it all back to the most horrendous possibility.
