You mean all these guys are really members of some secret society that is promoting global warming. I wonder if they have a secret handshake. I wonder who is paying them. Too silly.:lol:

Of course juan, I question the motives and "agenda" behind the movement, so I must be some conspiracy nut job. You and I both know that not only is that bullshyte, but an all to common response. Have you anything to prove otherwise?

I do not believe that every scientist on the AGW kick has an agenda, but there are quite a few with very socialist leanings that refuse to debate their merits or the merits of the science, they resort to name calling and childish blathering on radio shows and print media.

That is a clear sign of something "wrong" to me.

If the issue is that important, should the scientist making the road trip, be willing to back up the science, without resorting to ignorance?

Al Gore, or anyone who puts effort into bringing attention to the importance of taking care of our
earth, should be given credit. It doesn't matter if there is political motivation or not.

The point is that, it brings others to become aware of the importance of "good" earthly living, and
pay attention to what is important, clean invironment and clean earth.

People who are ANTI GORE, or just republicans, can't deal with Gore getting credit, (or, any other
democrat) for that matter, so they spew out any criticizism they can muster.

The care of our earth/environment is not about POLITICS. Get over it. I don't care who comes forward with constructive ways for us to improve our invironmental lives, let's listen.

I question your calling it a "movement". The evidence is there for all who are interested.

What the hell has socialist leanings(if they exist)to do with global warming? There is debate going on almost daily.

The science is very well backed up. It is not the fault of the scientists that you don't understand it.

Exactly. Gore has won an Academy Award and he might even get a Nobel prize but if he's a Democrat he must be wrong, or stupid, or something.

It is a CRUSADE. A Green Party Jihad.

Damn your AGW research and graphs and pledge total obedience to our data or suffer the consequenses!

It's funny all this attention is paid to Gore now. Really our Government should be doing more to make the public aware of incentives that are offered. It's funny how so many Canadians like to bash the Americans over this, when really we are so much worse.

Take for example a solar water heater. A fellow I know in Florida can purchase one for roughly $2000. These are the incentives he has in Florida:
$450 subsidy from his county
$500 from the State
$2000 dollar credit from the feds. Likely they would make up whatever is left over.
Point is, after he purchases the equipment, he has all of these programs at his disposal.

What would I get in Nova Scotia?
10% rebate for the cost, up to $5000, or a rebate of $500.
That's it. If it were included in the price of a new home, and it lowered the energuide rating of the new home, again up to a $500 credit, depending on the rating.

Pathetic.

once again a fascinating post, concentrating on fact instead of name-calling and ****-slinging.

thank you tonington for being the voice of reason. Canada can learn from california's example here, and Al Gore is totally irrelavent to the important point of making useful decisions based on facts.

facts:

-global warming is occurring
-pollution is a problem
-the two may or may not be linked
-avoiding pollution by green technologies such as the solar water heater for instance can help with pollution and therefore maybe global warming.

the conclusion is clear, we, and the government, should be doing what we can to avoid over-pollution and misuse of our planet's resources.

I am all for cleaning up the environment, reducing dependency on fossil fuels, punishing companies that violate laws such as illegally dumping toxic waste into waterways and the ground.

But I will not kneel at the feet of Al Gore and the rest of the eco nuts who just want to squeeze billions out of US Companies and destroy our economy.

Start with China first. See how they react.

When you consider that the average family of four will require something in the order of 6,400 kilowatt hours per year to service their hot water needs, the size and price of a total solar water heating system will be astronomical. I've looked into solar water heating systems for my own house and found that the cost of providing even half of my hot water requirements from solar panels is prohibitive. Maybe a better approach would be to try to find ways to cut down our use of hot water.

I'd assume it would cost more to heat water up here than it would in Florida, I'm just saying that our incentives are lame in comparison. Cutting back on water for sure. Like cold water in the washing machine, I'm sure those geothermal units could capture heat to raise the temp up in the water tanks too.

Here is ANOTHER Hollywood Disciple of Al Gore. But Travolta was at the Oscars and Al Gore granted Movie Stars like John a free ticket to pollute with the Carbon Credit Gift.

Happy Flying Vinny Barbarino!

........................................................................................................................

His serious aviation habit means he is hardly the best person to lecture others on the environment. But John Travolta went ahead and did it anyway.
The 53-year-old actor, a passionate pilot, encouraged his fans to "do their bit" to tackle global warming.
Scroll down for more...

Happy landings: John Travolta's plane collection parked at his home in Florida

But although he readily admitted: "I fly jets", he failed to mention he actually owns five, along with his own private runway.
Clocking up at least 30,000 flying miles in the past 12 months means he has produced an estimated 800 tons of carbon emissions – nearly 100 times the average Briton's tally.
Travolta made his comments this week at the British premiere of his movie, Wild Hogs.
He spoke of the importance of helping the environment by using "alternative methods of fuel" – after driving down the red carpet on a Harley Davidson.

This is your captain: Travolta on tour for Qantas

Travolta, a Scientologist, claimed the solution to global warming could be found in outer space and blamed his hefty flying mileage on the nature of the movie business.
But his appointment as a "serving ambassador" for the Australian airline Qantas doesn't seem to have much to do with the movies. Nor does a recent, two-month round-the-world flying trip.
"It [global warming] is a very valid issue," Travolta declared. "I'm wondering if we need to think about other planets and dome cities.
"Everyone can do their bit. But I don't know if it's not too late already. We have to think about alternative methods of fuel.
"I'm probably not the best candidate to ask about global warming because I fly jets.
"I use them as a business tool though, as others do. I think it's part of this industry – otherwise I couldn't be here doing this and I wouldn't be here now."
Travolta's five private planes – a customised £2million Boeing 707, three Gulfstream jets and a Lear jet – are kept at the bottom of his garden in the US next to a private runway.
Indeed, such is his enthusiasm for flying, he persuaded his wife, actress Kelly Preston, to name their son Jett when he was born 14 years ago.
Five years ago he piloted his own Boeing 707 on a 13- city "Spirit of Friendship Tour" for Qantas, taking in Los Angeles, Auckland, Sydney, Singapore, Tokyo, London, Paris and New York and amassing over 35,000 flying miles.
More recently, a gruelling promotional schedule for his two latest projects, Hairspray and Wild Hogs, has seen him fly extensively over the past year.
This includes a country-wide tour of the US and a visit to Canada as well as this week's appearance in Leicester Square.
Such prolific mileage means that, over the past 12 months, he has accumulated around 800 tonnes of carbon emissions.
According to a recent study by the government-funded Carbon Trust, this means he boasts a carbon "footprint" nearly 100 times that of the average Briton, who is responsible for 10.92 tons of Co2, from his flights alone.
One of the world's leading climate change businesses, the Carbon Neutral Company, has written to Travolta, suggesting ways he could reduce these alarming levels.
He has yet to respond to their advice. Environmental groups were quick to criticise Travolta for "discrediting the cause".
John Buckley, managing director-of CarbonFootprint.com, said: "John Travolta has such a high-profile celebrity status, so what he says carries an extraordinary amount of weight.
"So it is such a shame when someone of his standing is so outspoken about green issues, yet fails to practise what he preaches.
"Unfortunately someone of his standing ends up discrediting the cause itself, because he is saying people should protect the environment on one hand, yet travelling on a private plane on the other.
"Green issues are serious and should be treated as such.
"It is vital for celebrities to toe the line when they speak out in support of it."

Another approach might be to promote the installation of solar water heating systems in all new houses. It would definitely be easier to sort of cloak the $30,000.00 cost in the mortgage as opposed to asking people to cough up that kind of money separately. The energy savings would cover part of the cost increase.
