Well, it works for me. So yeah, infants get 400 bucks too, but even though they aren't working productive citizens, the families that raise those kids need that money too.

I would't want to hear that the gov't had all this money and decided to invest in in - ahem - some kind of sponsorship scandal-like screwball idea...

I just moved to Alberta from B.C. Yeah thre are bunch of intense misinformed neo-cons here, but there are also reasonable conservatives, as well as even some Green Party supporters (yeah, I'm one).

The rest of Canada can relax. I believe they're getting lots of this cash through the federal gov'y too.

A few years back when B.C. was raking it in, it was the eastern provinces that needed support. I remember B.C. residents being upset about the loss of that money, but it seems that Albertans are taking a little more heat now that they have the cash.

It's no big deal... $400 will go out of my pocket so fast I'll hardly be able to put gas in my van, let alone consider getting the 'gold package' with my TV cable provider.

Unfortunately, it is the misinformed neo-cons that are the most vocal, Cam. That seems to be especially true on the internet, but the Alberta media in particular represents one narrow ideology.

I would have preferred that the province keep the refund... and build something great, that would be unique to Alberta, and the rest of the world.

For instance... a rocket train between Lethbridge, Calgary, and Edmonton... (just as an example).

People from everywhere would then know us as the guys with the rocket train...

It would be so much better than $400 in my pocket. Even if I never got to ride the train.

Now see, we know there are reasonable normal conservatives out there, we just keep getting the neocons, as the bragging can attest to around here, man its so vulgar 8O
As I have stated before, one of my brothers is a card carrying conservative, if he ever presented himself like these neocons, the family surely would have had a lynching :p

A rocket train from Lethbridge to Edmonton ??? Yah, now that's a wise use of money. The cost per user would be ridiculous. And who would visit Alberta to rocket along the corridor from Lethbridge to Edmonton? Not much of a tourist draw either.

Dino, if you don't know what to do with your $400 - donate it to the foodbank.

I was using the rocket train as an example...

I just think that the money should go towards something frivolous, and indicative of our relative wealth as a province.

Something that no-one else has....

Let's face it... a rocket train would kick ass... so would a giant flaming tower in the middle of the prairies. Or the worlds fastest/tallest waterslide... in somewhere like Consort, Three Hills, or Oyen.

It is just that with all of our $400 combined... we can make a statement....

As it is, the $400 will barely cover 6 weeks of heat this winter. Which I was gonna buy anyways. As were you.

Well Manitoba has agriculture, mining, tourism, Polar bear tourism and Catfish tourism at Lock Port for the World famous Red River Channel Catfish. Manitoba has lots to offer. Not to mention Gimli and I believe Winnipeg has largest railway yards in the west.

We have oil now too, No1...they made a major find last year and are just starting to develop it now. We also have hydro electricity and brought our first wind farm on-line earlier this year. We have some manufacturing and high-tech too, not to mention a growing film industry and an lively artistic community.

The rail industry is big...we have a the maintenance shops for CN here. You also mentioned Gimli...that's the home of our fishing industry.

I always get a good laugh when I hear that there's nothing here. It's a pretty diverse economy.

Where are all the Liberal Media located? The frigging right seems to control every aspect of publishing, radio and television..with one exception[our CBC]. No wonder they hate it so much! So,the right is basically a lot of bullies who cry whenever any one dares condradict them. it's no use arguing with them ,unless you do it with a nice 2x4 in your mitts

The whole "liberal media" thing is one of the biggest scams ever put forth by the right. Even those the define as being liberal (i.e. CBC, New York Times) clearly have the interests of corporations at heart over the interests of the people.

If there was a truly liberal media, the right would have long ago been marginalised and become extinct. That they are still around to perpetuate the myth shows that the radical right has been lying to us.
