I was just saying to my wife this morning, what happened to the billions given
over the years in tax relief? Some of this money should have been held in a
reserve fund.
Secondly why is it when students, farmers, veterans or some other group gets
a bit of help we call it a cost and a hand out, yet when the oil folks or corporations
get billions in handouts we call them intensives.
I have read over and over how the car companies and banks should have been
allowed to fail remember the conservative rantings? I didn't agree and as others
didn't either. Yet the same conservative voices are blaming the NDP and the feds
for doing nothing in their view to help the oil industry. Remember the folks who
preached free enterprise calls for winners and losers and now the tune has
changed. I do agree that Alberta needs help and there is a crisis. I also believe
the time has come for companies to be responsible and if they decide to move
their capital as Boomer says fine. Alberta should take their licenses and assets
here that are left and sell them to others after all, all those tax breaks paid for the
asset.
It is time to examine under what conditions we help corporations. If they leave they
pay back the breaks they got. I guess we might have to legislate loyalty as these
companies apparently no long have their moral compass. Legislating conditions is
appropriate in my opinion instead we have governments that will give them more.
The NDP has had its boondoggles like any other group but this mess is the responsibility
of the Alberta Conservative Governments since Lougheed for they let these guys do as
they like
