How do you know what emerges in the last minute news is true?
If that were valid, all the candidates would say something really rotten about each other the last couple of days and get it in the news. Wouldn't that be a fiasco?

You don't - nothing is for sure in this world, voting is just a process of sifting through a bunch of information, sorting through evidence, determining what substantiates what, using some common sense, examining your hunches, then holding your nose and with trepidation marking the ballot. Nothing that any politicians says about anything should be regarded as "news".

That's a silly statement. What if you change your mind after May 2? Once you vote, you vote.

What you're suggesting is that you think your opinion could change based on what happens in the last 2 weeks of the campaign. Me, I think that what the candidates say during the campaign is of far less value than what they've said, and done, in the years since the last election. My opinion of, for example, ethical behaviour isn't likely to change because someone says something in a campaign, it's more likely based on what they've done when they didn't think an election hung in the balance. And I think I've seen enough to make a call.

It's not silly at all, I can't change my mind after May 2nd but I can before that.

Any number of things could happen in the last 10 days.

Such as the investigation by the OPP into kickbacks in Tony Clements riding.....what if the allegations are true?

Do you still vote for the guy?

Would you regret voting for the guy?

Now, if are not going to be available on May 2nd, for whatever reason, then you have no choice but advance polls otherwise are for people who vote for the same party every single time......you know the type.....mindless sheeple.

How are you going to know if the allegations are true by May 2. Do you really think the trial will be over by then?

Went to vote yesterday. Mine will be a fart in the wind, lol

Ditto!!! But it's done & out'a the way. Done my part in the democratic process,
and can carry on more or less ignoring the political B.S. for the next week and
a half. Feels good.

My vote might be a fart in the wind, but it's my fart in the wind.

I work out of town, and no way in Hell would I have been able to vote on May 2nd
without a 3+hr commute each way to get to my polling station, or mailing in my
ballet.

Is that income still tax free? That was one nice thing about being an enumerator, the income was tax free. Mind you, that was 20 years ago, maybe the rules have changed.
Nope. They take full deductions. Harper changed "casual labour" taxation laws so everybody gets nailed.

The winds coming out of the west today, do you mind?

And you should cut down on your protein intake.

You've no idea man! Just to maintain my weigh (weird work lately), I have to
consume 5000-6000 calaries a day....so yeah, there's some wind. In the
first month in a pit, before I started eating something every hour & a half,
I dropped 12lbs that I didn't intend on dropping.

Nothing beats butter to warm you up when working outdoors.

Tell me about it. I remember my first few months underground. It's hard work.

But it's hard on the complexion.

I've learned to just eat breakfast, and then eat (what I can carry) yogurt bars & protein
bars & bags of nuts'n'berry's through the day, and a huge supper. I'm sure this will
drop off with the warmer weather, but between shovelling wet sand, and producing
enough heat to maintain my bodies temperature...that's what it took.

How many winters have worked outside now?

I'd done it when I was younger (but not for two decades or so...), and I ate a lot
back then, but was a much younger man. This was the first one when I was
outdoors more than not in many-many years. 12hr (or longer) shifts so I'm
outdoors more than I'm not, literally.

It's hard on a body at our age eh. I'm back in the field too. Thursday was particularly rough. The drizzle made for some interesting welding, lol. Nothing like welsing in the sumps when I was underground, but interesting none the less, lol.

Working underground probably requires just as many calories as working outdoors. In my late teens I worked as a MUCKER (i.e. shovel about 20 tons a day of smashed rocks down the chute). For breakfast I never ate less than eight eggs, with corresponding amounts of bacon/ham/toast. Lunch was a lunch bucket filled with sandwiches and fruit. Supper was more one day than I could eat now in a week.

Boy, was it great to feel strong!!

I hear you, and weirdly....with the exception of the Foreman (who's a few months
younger than I am, but has been doing this for 17yrs now), I'm the youngest guy
out there by several years, so I pile onto the dirtiest, heaviest stuff without any
qualms, as I'm in better shape than anyone else at this point.

The guy who owns the operation prefers to hire guys who he figures have been
around long enough to respect the equipment and not abuse them by being
rammy like we all where (& some still are) in our youth.

Anyway....we're totally derailing the Thread. Anyone else vote early?
