House committee: security requests denied in Libya

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Leaders of a House committee said Tuesday that U.S. diplomats in Libya made repeated requests for increased security for the consulate in Benghazi and were turned down by officials in Washington.

In a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Chairman Darrell Issa and Rep. Jason Chaffetz said their information came from "individuals with direct knowledge of events in Libya."

U.S. Consulate in Benghazi Bombed Twice in Run-Up to 9/11 Anniversary

Oct 2, 2012 4:45 AM EDT Jihadists twice set off explosives at the consulate prior to the incident that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens, and announced threats on Facebook about escalating attacks on Western targets in the run-up to the 9/11 anniversary, according to whistleblowers reaching out to House Republicans.

The embassy request stated:Quite simply, we cannot maintain our existing levels of Embassy operations, much less implement necessary staffing increases, without a continued SST presence.”
Related:
It's been 27 days since Benghazi. Remind me again, what was the "gaffe" Romney made about it the next day?

Just because he turned out to be correct does not equate to acting correctly. Now Loc you know that.

Collateral damage as some people would say.

Think of the attack on Pearl Harbour a lot of false alarms before the actual event happened.

They should have closed the embassy long ago or just share space with another embassy.

Again with huge, almost superhuman effort on your part you rise to the level of stupidity.

Video From Benghazi Consulate Shows Organized Attack

Footage from the night of Sept. 11 might be the clearest evidence yet of a military-style assault on the consulate in Benghazi. Eli Lake reports.

Video footage from the United States consulate in Benghazi, Libya, taken the night of the Sept. 11 anniversary attacks, shows an organized group of armed men attacking the compound, according to two U.S. intelligence officials who have seen the footage and are involved in the ongoing investigation. The footage, which was recovered from the site last week by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, offers some of the most tangible evidence yet that a military-style assault took place, according to these officials.

Clinton: I'm responsible for diplomats' security

Lima, Peru (CNN) -- Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Monday tried to douse a political firestorm over the deadly assault on a U.S. diplomatic mission in Libya, saying she's responsible for the security of American diplomatic outposts.

"I take responsibility," Clinton said during a visit to Peru. "I'm in charge of the State Department's 60,000-plus people all over the world, 275 posts. The president and the vice president wouldn't be knowledgeable about specific decisions that are made by security professionals. They're the ones who weigh all of the threats and the risks and the needs and make a considered decision."

So Obama says it was terrorism, but Rice and Carney simply ignore their boss and say it wasn't? For a week? That's the new story?

To believe this reinterpretation of Obama's Rose Garden liine you have to accept that Carney and Rice didn't know what Obama said or thought

I can just hear Clinton muttering "that dumb bastard" for blundering into the Libya mess that she already cleaned up for him once.

https://twitter.com/gabrielmalor/status/258417900489150464

Without a doubt the most-talked about exchange of the debate will be the
confrontation between President Obama and Gov. Romney on Libya.

Ultimately, Crowley sided with Obama, saying that the President did indeed call the Benghazi attack an "act of terror." But it's not clear that Obama did so.

At the end of his remarks on September 13, President Obama said "No acts of
terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation, alter that character, or eclipse the light of the values that we stand for."

But he did not actually say the Benghazi attack was an act of terrorism. And he
then sent his surrogates and staff, particularly UN Ambassador Rice, Robert Gibbs, Jay Carney, and David Axelrod, to flood the airwaves making claims
that the attack was in retaliation for a YouTube video. They specifically
said that there was no evidence the killings in Benghazi were the result of
a premeditated attack. Obama again focused on the YouTube video during his UN speech paying tribute to Ambassador Stevens on September 25.

President Obama has never explained why he and his administration persisted
in the YouTube lie for so long and now he'd like to avoid it completely, by
pretending that he initially labeled the attack terrorism.

That just wasn't the case.

Blame Obama for four deaths in Libya. But don’t blame Bush for nearly 3,000 deaths in New York.

When the Aug. 6 document came to light in May 2002, Cheney brushed it off. “It didn't give us any actionable intelligence,” he insisted in a Fox News interview. “It didn't really give us anything new or anything precise or specific.” As to the rest of the warning signs, Cheney argued,

There wasn't anything out there that would have allowed us to predict what was going to happen. We found out since Sept. 11 that the FBI had Moussaoui in custody in Minnesota. We didn't know that before the 11th. That didn't trickle up to the presidential level. We've since heard about the so-called Phoenix memo that dates back to sometime in July, but again that didn't come up. … In terms of getting down into the nitty gritty, into the weeds of this kind of intelligence reporting, you know, we're not in the habit of reading the raw intelligence reports from the FBI. There are 56 bureaus around the country, and that stuff—there aren't enough hours in the day for us to do all of that, so you need a system that deals with it.
