Killing of humans is where I draw the line.

The problem is that the current society we have created is set up so that there are circumstances where NOT killing the baby is going to lead to huge problems in numerous persons lives...if two teens conceive a child and are forced to keep the baby (because abortion is illegal as you are arguing it should be) then essentially these people have their hands tied for the rest of their teenage years and makes college or university quite difficult to get to. Factor in that these kids could be runaways or orphans or homeless or from families with, say, alcoholism or drug abuse in them, and the kids are left to themselves to raise the child...again, effectively tying their hands and "ending" their lives in the sense that future education, steady employment etc become difficult to get.

Now, I'm saying that is in the society created. You've pointed out that religious groups [I'm guessing some secular groups too] have created facilities where teenage mothers can go for help and whatnot, but why is this obviously extremely important task left to usually non profit organizations? Isn't there something wrong when close to 10 million a day is being spent on wars in other countries when at home we have this problem going on? I know the war doesn't involve us [Canada] but the point remains - other things that aren't as necessary are being given tons of government resources, time and attention when a fraction of them could so greatly reduce the need for, and the actual number of, abortions.

SK,

Have you heard of something called adoption?? We need to make this a more palatable option for these young women.

Instead of portraying adoption as abandoning their baby, portray it as a loving decision to give their child a good start to their life.

Well, that basically proved my point - thanks!

Exactly...we need to spend money on social services for pregnant women AND single mothers (because life does not end at birth) and we need to simplify the adoption process for these women...in fact I think I even addressed this a few pages ago in this thread, let me see:

Why isn't the adoption process simplified especially for teenage mothers so that they don't feel overwhelmed and in some cases villanized by the system?

Why do right-wingers frown on teenage mothers for being horrible, slutty sinners, yet also frown on teens (and single parents) who have had abortions for being baby killers?

And, after you made an observation on the right - I'm definitely going to ask that everyone reading this replace "right-wingers" with "mostly society as a whole" in that last paragraph.

Changing the way adoption is gone about, and how it is perceived by society is again part of the government making more efficient use of its resources and spending money where it's gonna do some good.

So what about stem cell research?

I'd read an article about the growing of human embryo's being used to further scientific advancements, what is your opinion on this.
