First step would be to get rid of the silly notion that people are entitled to money without working for it. Except of course those that are physically unable to do anything.

Which includes a huge portion of the population including a few professionals! (What are lawyer's hourly rate these days?) :) :)

So at a flat $13 an hour is $25K a year. Is it hard to get by on $25K?

Depends on so many things. What is their housing situation? Do they need a vehicle or will the bus and an occasional taxi suffice? What is their status healthwise? Are they able to work a couple of hours periodically under the table? Do they have dependents?

Are there no prisons? Are there no workhouses?

You been reading Dickens?

There may be a little plagiarism in Post 33! :) It may be a direct quote from "A Christmas Carol" and as such should have quotation marks, if anyone was to get sticky about it. ;) :)

Really?? The drunks around here get 15 or 24 for that price, not premium beer drinkers by any means but it seems to get the job done.

I like domestic and foreign beer, so I have slightly more expensive taste.
I don't dig craft beer or bargain beer.
And while were at it, Budweiser is sh!t too.

If the job is to enjoy a beverage, you still won't find it at the bottom of the 15th Keystone.

It is in Edmonton, where rent for a family apartment is about $700 to $1000 a month or more.

I'm sure Charles Dickens doesn't care.

That hasn't changed in 60 years since I was making a buck an hour, Pete! I think the poor are worse off today than they were then! There's got to be a better plan!

You're right. Pay them $20 an hour and require the ultra-wealthy to pay higher taxes.

It would be great for a week or two, maybe a month, actually in the long run it might be good in that it will demonstrate undeniably that this system just WILL NOT work. Get government out of it!

Far as I can recall bottled beer tastes better than in a can. Cold beer is better than warm beer, at least until the 4th one and then it doesn't matter so much. I don't recall seeing any stop buttons.

Don't have a family if you can't afford it. The wealthy already pay far more than their fair share of taxes. Time for the freeloaders to get a job and contribute their fair share of taxes instead of sucking money out of the system.

It's been shown time and again that many of 'the wealthy' pay very little tax, by using various legal and not legal methods.

For sure, you'd figure after about $50,000 they'd think they have enough!

It's time people got it through their thick heads that many of the wealthy also contribute in many other ways. They create jobs and hire people, they make large charitable donations and many of the retired rich contribute numerous hours of their time to community projects. Time to get the druggies and layabouts mobile and contributing. There's more of them than the rich!

If they use legal means to reduce their tax's it is obviously their fair share. If you have proof any are cheating please forward said proof to CCRA.In any event that pertains to income tax while the wealthy pay far more in a multitude of other taxes from GST to property taxes. THey also generally use far less government services even though they pay the bills.
