"For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,'
declares the Lord.
'As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts." (Isaiah 55:8-9 NIV)
Proving validity using its own words is no proof at all. Besides, that statement could be made in a thousand different ways in a thousand different languages over thousands of years. You still only have your own blind faith.

Not attempting to prove anything, Cliffy. Just re-directing your objections towards the One at whom they are aimed.

Agreed, Cliffy. Would you be willing to initiate this exemplary behavior by addressing me by name in your posts to me?

Are you going to respond to my Friend request?
First off, Motar, that meme was not aimed at anyone in particular but a general thought out to all religious people who claim their way is the only way. That is why I never attached a name to it. I have my own system of beliefs. I don't really tell anybody what they are because I believe the journey is a personal one and I have no need to convince anybody of the righteousness of my beliefs. My main focus is to try to get others to see and accept that the beliefs or non-beliefs of others is just as valid, just as sacred as theirs. I really don't care what you believe about the divine or your relationship with it. We are all brothers and sisters, all born on this planet, all equal, all deserving of respect, freedom and justice. If your beliefs will not allow you to see that, then I really have no use for them, and neither should you. Anything that divides us is an act of violence.

There is also a book that is so impressive no other book can claim even the history let alone the info that is contained in it. Know of any other book that sums up the creation of the universe and earth on one short page? We have a libray full and it isn't any more authoritative.

The Urantia Book is one. The Vedas is another. There were many books and oral traditions that covered all that ground from the perspectives of the cultures that spawned them. The bible is just the Jewish version borrowed from older versions like the Egyptian, Babylonian, Assyrian, Hindu and Persian texts that are much older. Unless you bother to look, you will find nothing.

There is also an ancient people associated with this book, MHz, who endure in spite of a history of repeated enslavement, invasion, occupation and genocide, lending authenticity and authority to the Bible message.

Who would that be? It can't be the Jews as God sent them on a mission into the Gentile Nations to teach them about God. It is hardly God's fault if they couldn't purge themselves of the money-changers. I assume the few verses below give an indication of how long that mission lasts as the 'few in numbers' is a reference to Re:7 where God only seals 144,000 from being sent to the grave.

Totally agree that Jews wrote the Bible, that doesn't mean God gave them the understanding that goes with it, if He had they would never have been exiled to Neb's Babylon. Considering God levels the place getting Jews there before that event isn't doing them any favors. He even gave them 430 years in Egypt to learn how to live in a Gentile nation, you take the humble positions rather than trying to run the show (since they messed up the one chance they had)

De:4:27-30:
And the LORD shall scatter you among the nations,
and ye shall be left few in number among the heathen,
whither the LORD shall lead you.
And there ye shall serve gods,
the work of men's hands,
wood and stone,
which neither see,
nor hear,
nor eat,
nor smell.
But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God,
thou shalt find him,
if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.
When thou art in tribulation,
and all these things are come upon thee,
even in the latter days,
if thou turn to the LORD thy God,
and shalt be obedient unto his voice;
(For the LORD thy God is a merciful God;)
he will not forsake thee,
neither destroy thee,
nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.

There are many "holy" books written, why is yours any more divinely inspired than any other? Just because you say so? Many peoples had very strong spiritual beliefs but had no written language. Do we write them off because of that? Just because the authors of the book say it was divinely inspired is not proof that it was. All beliefs in the bible and the god of the bible are based entirely on blind faith.

I am not arguing the existence of a creator. I am arguing that those who say, unequivocally, that the bible is the word of god do not have a leg to stand on but their blind faith. What if the Creator gave its word to all people, in all historical time frames, in all geographical locations, in a language that they could understand, with characters and events that they could relate to? If this creator god is a loving and caring one, then it would make more sense this way than give it too only one people, in one geographical location in one historical time frame. Otherwise, this creator god would just be some psychotic fruit loop who created a species so flawed they could not possibly live up to its expectations and then punishes them for being flawed. Does not make sense at all.
Cliffy,
Are you as infuriated with other religions? Other religions (HIndu, Islam, Buddhist etc) have various belief systems that are also in opposition to your universalist view. Why does Christianity especially raise your ire?

And in regards to the sheep:
If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.”
25 Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”

Agree, MHz.

Humility is holding/living an accurate opinion of oneself before God and others. It lies somewhere between inferior envy and superior arrogance. Humility is attained/maintained through fellowship with God:

"Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me." (John 15:4 NIV)

When Muslims come on here spouting their nonsense, I razz them too. I don't see Hindus and Buddhists evangelizing. Neither do Jews and Catholics try to convert or evangelize. It seems that task has been almost the sole property of Born Againers. I hope that clears that up for you. I find it really arrogant to assume your beliefs are better than anybody else's based on a book that tells you that it is. If you bothered to study the origins of religions you would see that the bible is not unique in any way and that it is based on much older books, as the Beav has been trying to show you. The teachings of Jesus are fine with me, it is the arrogance and self righteousness of his so called followers that get my ire.

Hinduism and Christianity (and Islam, and Judaism, etc.) have much in common; they are both polytheistic religions.

Religion is culturally based. In North America, Christianity is the dominant religion among believers; it is natual to critique it in these forums.

Oh yes, and don't forget Satan, various devils and daemons, and nine categories of angels, all of which are really lesser deities.

In this Christian forum, non-Christian/anti-Christian commentary is evangelism, Cliffy.

Christ can easily lift the burdens we bear, if only we stop hiding. He can shave off our "fleece," that is, our self-imposed burdens brought about by wandering from our Good Shepherd.

“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
