you really seem to have a hard on for beating kids lately.
The ashes were dumped on the pavement and the pouch tossed to the side. According to investigators, some of the girls thought the whole thing was a big joke.
"The disturbing part of it was that when they were told what had happened — and they knew it happened because of the news — the one girl actually thought it was kind of funny, like she didn't take it seriously," said Det. Theresa Garagan.
I don't understand. While I agree these girls should be punished for stealing, what's the big deal about the ashes?
Corpse worship. Very unhealthy.Yeah, right. I don't buy for a second that you don't know why it would be considered a big deal. If you don't, perhaps try just stating the reason why.

Yeah, I just hate unempathetic thieves.Lack of empathy. A less than desirable trait.
I agree. We need a special law that says people who lost someone dear should not be stolen from. It's not about the treatment of the ashes per se but the complete disregard of the symbolism of the loss.
Personally I don't much care what folk do with remains. I'm just amused that just about every religion in the world emphasises that the spirit is what counts, not the body. Then people make a fetish of the body. As far as the girl's character, you expected maybe deep appreciation of emotional suffering from a thief?Personally I think ashes, like intact human remains, should be interred but finding humour and laughing in that scenario doesn't speak well for the character of the girl.
Human remains can be replaced with a pound of hamburger. As I said, corpse worship. Talk about messed-up values. Now, neither does stealing a car speak to character, but a car is a thing and what it represents is easily replaced. Human remains, not so much.

Ask anyone who's ever had anything stolen from them. "Did you want this to be stolen?" "Well, no, not really."Ask the relatives of the deceased.
That's pretty much the definition of "stealing."To begin with the ashes WERE'NT theirs.
The deceased don't want anything. There's also an outside chance the deceased didn't want their ashes dumped in the exact spot the perps chose to dump them.

OK, can we generalise this? A separate crime or at least enhanced penalties for people who steal something that, in the opinion of the jury, is REALLY REALLY emotionally important to the victim of the theft?I know we are dealing mainly with emotions here, but believe it or not emotions are a big part of some people's lives BUT the main issue is they had NO BUSINESS tampering with something that doesn't concern them. 25 lashes each and a few ounces of salt. -![]()
