People are obviously free to think and say what they want, but others are obviously also free to do the same and make choices based on that. What GLAAD does is express their thoughts on these issues and try to influence the opinions and actions of others regarding these issues.

GLAAD preaches perfect acceptance.

Perfect acceptance is a flawed concept.

See, I don't like to hang out with 'those kinds of people'. The political message they push makes me uncomfortable. Their behaviour makes me cringe. While I feel that they can live their life how they want, secretly, deep down, I judge them and think they are risking their eternal souls by making the choices they make. I think they risk hell and damnation for spending so much time focused on their agenda.

And by 'those kinds of people', I mean born again Christians.

It makes it hypocritical if I stand up and speak tolerance and acceptance, and then try to have society ostracize anyone who doesn't behave the way I do.

Now, granted, I say loudly and often on this forum (and even in this thread).... Free speech does not guarantee you a venue.

But, I sit back and look at this situation and even from the perspective of a gay rights supporter, it smacks of people shining up their righteous indignation to show it off to the neighbours. That's a behaviour that organizations like GLAAD should be trying to eliminate from society, having seen the suffering it causes, not a behaviour they should perfect and turn on others.

Well, as we already know, this kind of stuff is the entire reason that GLAAD exists.

Yep to practice what they preach against.
Perhaps they should put more effort into changing Stat Laws- Some still have Sodomy on the books.
And yes, though these laws were thrown out by the USSC there are still the occasional charges laid.
States are loath to remove thee laws due to the politics of doing so.

Louisiana Sodomy Sting: How Invalidated Sex Laws Still Lead to Arrests | TIME.com

Oops, our bad. But it was on the books! Such was the response, essentially, of the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, after The Advocate newspaper reported on Sunday that at least 12 men had been arrested since 2011 under a sodomy law invalidated by the Supreme Court a decade ago. Most of these men were arrested after being approached by a male undercover cop at a public park and agreeing to have sex at a private residence. No money changed hands.

You guys still can't understand that homophobic views are exactly what they have to fight if they are trying to promote inclusion and tolerance?

Oh we understand all right. The many that are defending his right, are the same ones that defend LGBT rights. That is what you may be unaware of. He treats people with respect, more than can be said about GLADD and Group Think, Thought & Behaviors.

People being people will always have differing beliefs- While his views on Homosexuals are not the same as I have, the point the he makes about the teaching of Jesus I agree with.
Such as this from the interview.
"However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other."

That quote is actually from the statement he released after all of this blew up in his face.

I don't think pointing to positive things like that makes the hateful stuff any less hateful.

Publicly criticizing someone's sexual preferences isn't respectful. Overlooking all of the sins that the bible actually focuses on to fixate on the stuff about homosexuality isn't respectful to homosexuals or Christians.

Jesus didn't run around preaching "no homo".

by being exclusive and intolerant..... yup....makes sense to me.

How can they fight for tolerance and inclusion if they are supportive of people who are intolerant and bigoted?

My quote was from the published article. That brought GLADD the Intolerants reaction.

What are you fighting against if not things like this that are intolerant and homophobic?

http://www.gq.com/entertainment/television/201401/duck-dynasty-phil-robertson

Just not gettin it, are ya.

First off, Phil Robertsons comments, especially when you include his reply to the whiners, were far from intolerant. Borderline homophobic, maybe. I would lay odds though, that before this conversation, I could have got you to make "homophobic" comments.

The comments that Phil made, that are considered "homophobic" were observations that most if not all straight males would make.

Now, the intolerant bit. We all know that the bible, mainly in Leviticus and then most everything else is rewording or quotes from Leviticus, lays claim that homosexual acts are an abomination and a sin. This is nothing new. This is a part the Abrahamic religions. Attacking does no good, never has and never will.

What does this have to do with the post you quoted? I am talking about the general idea that groups like glaad can't be "inclusive" of homophobic or intolerant views if they want to fight for inclusion and tolerance. If you want to go back to talking about this specific case, fine, but don't act like I somehow don't get something that I wasn't even talking about.

The problem you and many other people seem to be having is that you can't seem to deal with both comments together. You deal with each one as if it is in a vacuum.

Yes, he was paraphrasing a line from the bible, but the question was about sin in general and he focused in on an issue that really isn't that big of a deal in the bible compared to other sins. In combination with other comments against gay men freely offered up, it really seems like he is just a homophobe trying to use the bible to legitimize his views, not simply a student of what the bible teaches.

it's called being tolerant. They choose not to be. They choose to look at everything as black and white. They are as intolerant as those they rail against.

Hmmmmm.... I'm sure that you have stated previously that you didn't know the Bible that well. That you were not a "Bible scholar", yet here you are telling us what is and what is not with the Bible.

Phil paraphrased 1st Corinthians (1 Corinthians 6:9-10), in that verse it mentions Homosexuality, Idolaters, fornicators, ......all kinds of sins. All in the one verse. So the only one stuck on the Homosexual part, would be you and GLAAD.

Again, how do you fight for tolerance and inclusion if no against those who are intolerant and homophobic?

Who said it wasn't in the bible? Certainly not me. I said that homosexuality is something that the bible doesn't dwell on all that much in comparison to other issues.

Phil was asked the question "What, in your mind, is sinful?", and he started with homosexuality and mentioned it two more times in the course of a few sentences. That is not at all how the bible reads.

In connection with his previous unprompted, non biblical comments on gay sex, that really seems like someone who is using the bible to legitimize his homophobic views.
