Gee, I wonder where the National Review was when the Dixie Chicks got censored and their music removed from all C&W radio & tv stations? In fact, the far right gleefully approved of that censorship. Remember?

One is as wrong as the other.

I don't think their cd and dvd sales ever recovered from that.

Yup, full scholarship to Tech, 1st string quarter back. Kept Bradshaw on the bench.... but he's just a dumb ol bigoted redneck.

So being good at football makes these comments more acceptable?

He is what he is. He used to have a promising career in football, he used to be a teacher, but he gave it up to make wooden duck calls in a shack in the forest for 25 years. What that says about a man is pretty hard to tell since it is a pretty unique life story.

Anybody that was a teacher knows getting out of THAT particular swamp is in itself an indication of genius. :)

What makes him NOT a dumb hick is the fact he had the wisdom to realize neither football nor teaching was his forte........despite the comfy career offered him on a platter.

Honestly, what does it really matter if you think he is a hick or not? It isn't like that is a scientific term.

What does it really have to do with if his statements are ok or not?

Nothin, so remember that. As for his statements. Nothing he has said should be taken offense over. Anyone that does take offense when none was meant, is too damn sensitive and needs to "man up".

Lol, you want me to remember what you know I already know?

Just because someone says that they don't mean to offend other people doesn't make that the case. Hell, how often does someone start a sentence with "no offence, but..." and not go into something offensive?

Obviously he doesn't think that there is anything wrong with what he said. That is why he said it in the first place.

It's not only him that doesn't think there is anything wrong with what he said. There are many members of GLBT community that didn't think there was anything wrong with what he said.

I haven't read the GQ interview.. and I was searching around to find out exactly what Robertson had said that was so controversial and came up with this..

“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men…”)

Good grief.. that's just common sense. He didn't even limit his comments to homosexuals.. he included those who engage in sex with animals... or are involved with serial philandering or adultery. That warrants sanction???. Isn't it unfair to those who are 'genetically predisposed' to bestiality and sexual incontinence.. but i haven't heard anything about those issues.

My guess is this only warrants attention because he trespassed over the boundary of an officially designated victims group.

In truth i've never watched Duck Dynasty because i don't watch Reality Television. But i know all RT is based on conflict. What could be better for ratings than this. I might even tune in for an episode if he ever gets out of the penalty box.. he sounds like a breath of fresh air in the suffocating atmosphere of saccharine political correctness the pervades television these days.

For crying out loud.. is it such a surprise that these bearded, backwoods moguls are rednecks. I thought that was the whole premise of the show.

And there are also many who do think that there is something wrong with his comments.

From my point of view, it looks a lot more like he is using the bible to try to legitimize his homophobic views rather than simply citing what the bible says.

The bible simply doesn't deal with homosexuality all that much compared to other issues, yet when asked about sin, he says "start with homosexuality.....". He also offers up his own opinions on the specifics of gay sex, which certainly has no basis in the bible. He has also publicly ranted about homosexuality in the past, so it seems like he is hung up on this specific issue.

Somebody sure is "hung up" on it. I'd say it was GLAAD and a few others that aren't secure enough in their own sexuality.

Of course I do, stupid. I've been a vocal advocate for equal rights, SSM, etc etc for quite some time.
Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation(I mistyped the acronym, I know).

I ask because you stated that you think they are doing this now because they "aren't secure enough in their own sexuality", when fighting this kind of stuff is right in the very name that they were founded under.

Their desire to fight this kind of stuff in the media seems pretty clearly rooted in the fact that that is what their organization was founded to do.

So, I would again put forward that I think that Phil is using the bible to legitimize his homophobic views, not just taking in whatever the bible teaches. What do you think about that?

Please clarify what you mean by fighting "this kind of stuff"??

Do you mean free speech?

Freedom of conscience??

Christianity??

Heterosexuality?

Guys with beards??

Homophobic attitudes and messages in the media.

Christianity does not say that sin "starts with homosexuality". Homosexuality isn't actually mentioned all that much in the bible. Christianity has no opinion on the merits of a ****** vs a mans ***.

Being heterosexual doesn't make you say this stuff(neither does having a beard ;) ).

People are obviously free to think and say what they want, but others are obviously also free to do the same and make choices based on that. What GLAAD does is express their thoughts on these issues and try to influence the opinions and actions of others regarding these issues.
