A better world: A Positive Idea Excersize

This is a thought excersize I thought up after reading some comments about how alot of people feel intimidated by the negative speak when discussing politics (and I agree).

The purpose of this game is simple.

Describe things you would do (ie, systems etc) to make the world a better place.

Do not insult someone elses plan, just write your own that doesn't mention it and works differently.

Do not saying things you WON'T do , do not say things that are currently wrong. Don't try and reprhase this as a positive

ie: I would make corporations less greedy and money grubbing:
I would make godless communist liberals work in camps
I would make inferior ninja's not so lame compared to their awesome pirate masters

Do not give theoretical high in the sky suggestions, only practical ideas. (Ie, I would make Labour/Capital/Land/Entrepreneurship the controlling force of production is bad, saying "I would give a better minimum wage/Depreciation write off/Land tax/Venture capital and grants" is far better, saying where that money should come from (again without being negative) is even better.


Remember, no being negative, no shooting holes in Ideas, nothing besides writing your own ideas instead (without insulting another idea, way or life or concept: Ie, Capitalism is bad, communism is bad, theocracy is bad)

To start:

Idea 1.) I think the Internet and computers is a great educational tool, so I would provide slow connection wi-fi to canadian cities and fund the $100 laptop project in developing countries with foreign aid, since I believe it will help humanize these far off places if people can talk to its inhabitants.

I would pay for the first with bonds (counting on the increased revenue as business thrives to pay for them), and pay for the second from Foreign aid.

Idea 2) Accountability

Much of the funding for government programs is without adequate oversight. Medical transfer funds, Environmental programs, Welfare programs, etc. I think federal funding for all programs should have strings attached. Ensuring that the health transfers actually get spent on improving the delivery of health care, ensuring that money transfered for climate change programs meets the goals that funding requests are initially requested under, ensuring that money spent on welfare is not the end all, that the money is working towards providing recipients with skills and training to get them on their own feet.

If the money is being mismanaged, simply cut the funding back. Departments don't wish to lose funding. There needs to be an understanding that the money is intended for specific purposes, and that the money is being spent as such.

You want to "humanize" these far off places by people talking to them. How many languages do you speak beside english? Which countries? Which aid agencys? Will you provide internet connections in these countrys , or will they have to build them first? Will they eat while they play on the internet, or just conduct businesses to earn income for food and houseing? What do you think they need most, cars or televisions? What about fast food outlets? Cell phones?

To make the world a better place, we should stay the hell home and stop interfering in other countrys.

DB what you say makes sense, and I don't want to goad you, but this is not in the spirit of what Zzarchov has asked for. Would it be that difficult to play along?

I would introduce Paganism as the universally accepted religion, thus restoring the values of self-reliance, respect, unity, respect for Nature and all living things, justice and spiritual development. And in a generation or two the world will be a much better place.

Seems like there should be some means of setting up a Translation program by computer. I vision sending out my Canadian English as a question about quality of life, and having someone in Mozambique hear my question in his Language.

Seems like the world could be Educated in their own language via computer. Seems like we could learn about each other as indivduals via computer.

Doubt it would fly. Too much money to be made and power to be brokered by keeping the statis quo IMO.

I would open after school and evening activities for youth in every school and community centre in the land. I would fund through tax/donation and require all celebrity/sports figures to participate twice per year for a structured shelter against income tax.

I would force all power companies to install for free a reverse power meter and purchase excess power from small suppliers and house holds to feed the grid.

I do enjoy the idea of corporate lifespan and returning liability (im a big personal responsability fan).

One thing I would like to do, as an addendum to my earlier idea, is set up an E-bay like system, except for loans to help entrepreneurs in developing countries.

$150 may not be alot here, but to someone setting up shop in Ethiopia or Calcutta it could get them on their way as venture capital. They could get a good living and grow and people here could make a good return on their investment. Means people wouldn't have to deal only with banks (some are very conservative) and would allow people to do Charitable ventures as well.

I think the best thing that could been done for people is to simply promote political, economic, and social freedom also known as liberty. I feel that life would be better if everyone was given the choice to chose their own path and to determine their own fate and future.

Something large and potentially unwieldy I've always been fiddling with in my mind.

Set up a canadian minimum wage. Any imported product from a country with a minimum wage lower than ours will have a tarrif applied to it based on the differences in minimum wages and labour intensity. The money can be sent back to the host country, in the form of charity of if possible, cheques to the workers themselves.

Likewise if imports come from a country with a higher minimum wage (in the interest of fairness and not being an artificial trade barrier) we should subsidize the import to an equal measure.

I would remove all bullies from regular schools and put them in a special school, away from the regular ones and then put a drill sergeant in charge! School would start at eight in the morning and finish at 5pm. Besides their regular lessons they would do Community work, like assisting the elderly and sick with all kinds of chores. Also pick up garbage around town, establish and cultivate a garden, learn composting:lol: shovel snow from sidewalks, help out in hospitals or nursing homes by assisting kitchen and janitorial staff, help out at the animal shelters!

Good behavior and deeds would earn them points to be redeemed for free time. After one year students would have the choice, either stay or give regular school another try. I could imagine a few kids would want to stay, because most of such kids come from dysfunctional and chaotic homes. There is nothing better for them than a good dose of discipline in a structured environment. Absolute no physical or otherwise mean punishment!

I need help from you folks to bring this idea into the realm of do-ability. :smile:
