Rule #1 if you brought you car to the bar makes sure you have a ride home.

It's an old one. Bartenders and bar owners can even be held liable for someone crashing their vehicle after leaving your establishment.

I knew that they were responsible for the drunks if they crash, but I didn't know about the parking lot.

Alas, drunks don't usually show much common sense so they would tend to forget about Rule #1.;)

Yup. Parking lot too.

Yes I would rather see someone sleeping it off but "sleeping it off" can take 6-8hrs. If someone is drunk takes a nap in the parking lot, then drives home all you have on your hands is a wide awake drunk.

About the sleeping in the car thing,if you've ever done it you know you generally don't sleep very long and you don't wake up {come to} all refreshed,no,you'er still loaded so not much better off than when you flamed out.
That's how I learned to drive, mum bootlegged so we had lost of drunks at all hours. I wasn't eight, meby twelve or thirteen,I'd drive 'em home or to the next bootlegger or just drive 'em arround while they drank their two dollar quart of Hermit. What an education.
In most provinces, meby all,the owner has "care and controll"no matter who's driving, and it's pretty much up to the cop to bust you if you have the keys,no matter if you'er sleeping in the front or hind seat.
