I watched part of the R7s ~ far more exciting than gridiron football.

It's the fastest, most action-packed team sport that I know. The matches are do short and intense that there is no chance to become bored of with any of it.

unfortunately, our North American footballers in their body armour, set-piece plays and stop-and-go action look silly in comparison.

Just about time for Thursday Night Football in the CFL. Long Live the Night!

Tonight the Edmonton Eskimos will be in Montreal to take on the Alouettes who surely need a win ......one of these days. Oh wait, they just traded for Johnny Football.........maybe, just maybe their fortunes are about to change. I sure hope so as we need every single team to be viable in our tiny little league especially as negotiations for a Maritime team are still a long way from being finalized - if ever.

Edmonton is currently in second place in the West with 3 Ws and 2 Ls under the belts. They are tied with my Riders at 6 points a piece.

The Al's have but one W to their credit against 4 Ls.

Tonight, I am going to cheer long and loud for the Als'.

GO MONTREAL!

Truly an impressive start by Vernon Adams who is in as pivot for Montreal. He started out with a ice little 17-yard completion, ran 5 yards for the first D, went deep to the end zone............and Edmonton was called for IPI putting the ball on the 1 yard line. Adams kept the ball himself and dove over for the TD. Johnny may be warming the bench for awhile tonight if Vernon keeps this up.

8:07 in the first Q and Montreal leads 7 - 0

Montreal's D took 53 yards in penalties putting the Esks deep in Al's territory but somehow managed to keep Edmonton out of the end zone limiting them to just 3 points courtesy of Sean Whyte's 44-yard FG.

Als 7 - Esks 3

Vernon continues to impress after being on the run and completing a jump pass for over 10 yards but Als come up short, miss on the FG by Bede and the Esks run the ball out past the 20 yard line. No point on that drive for Montreal. The D needs to dig in and not give Reilly and his bunch an inch or a centimeter even.

Good start.........they sacked Reilly. Esks aid in the effort with a holding call - repeat 2nd D. Oh that was a big cf. After failing to get a 1rst D on 2 and 20, O'Neill can't handle the snap, drops the ball then punts it away giving the Als great field position .....but it is all for naught when the Al's go 2 and out...........oh but wait, the Esks just got dinged with another 10 yard penalty and the Als have the D. They are at the Esks 42.........but Vernon gets sacked for a 6 yard loss......Sutton gets to the 30 but sort of the down and Als will bring Bede out for his second FG attempt ........and this time he nails it and the Als lead by a converted TD.

Unfortunately, the Esks got the ball, marched right down the field into the end zone on their next series and tied the game on the convert. Reilly completed two beautiful passes in the effort - darn him.

Oh, oh Vernon just delivered the ball right into the hands of ...........an Edmonton receiver for the first TO of the game........darn it. Great field position for the Esks too down around the Al's 35 yard line. Reilly connects with Walker for the D but that is wiped out by yet another 10 yard penalty against the Esks. 1 and 20, Reilly can't find his receiver on 1rst and 20 but Al's called for UR giving Edmonton the D they need. Robinson gets them the the 17 but short of the D. Sheeeit.........that will be a highlight reel TD for sure. Gable caught the pass from Reilly around the 5, fell down all by himself, got up untouched and dove into the end zone to put the Esks ahead by 7 with the convert.

Als go 2 and out after Vernon almost delivers another interception then is tackled hard and misses his target. Esks are now at the Als 5 yard line, Reilly just missed his receiver the end zone on 2nd and 10 and the Esks settle for a FG to go ahead by 10 points.

Als add 3 to their score after Bede's 45-yarder is shaky but gets the job done.

Wait. . . Bede's with the Als now? Damn, your players jump around more than Trump's mistresses!

Yes, it's true, Tec.......Bede........or as I think of him, the Honorable Bede, is with the Alouettes. He's been with the Als since February 12th 2015.

OK, so maybe he's more like Karen McDougal than Stormy Daniels.

Still, one of the rather dizzying things about the CFL is how much the players swap around. I was just getting used to the furious pace of free agency in the NFL, compared to the old days, but the CFL is a whirlwind!

Not saying that's a bad thing, and not putting down the Honorable Bede. Just a little disorienting for somebody who only gets a few games a year.

By the way, the original was the Venerable Bede, but I guess that wouldn't work too well for a football player.

Esks' Williams with great second effort escapes his two defenders and runs all the way to the end zone for yet another Edmonton TD. Als benefit from a great return on the punt, Adams connects to put them in Edmonton territory but a couple of miscues robs them of even getting a FG.

27 - 13 Eskimos at the half.

Venerable............thank you for that Tec though you are right it doesn't work well with a football player. I always know when a team is in trouble because next thing you know, and if they can afford it, they start trading players. Sometimes it sparks the team, sometimes it just continues the misery. I sure hope Manziel can spark the Als............but first he needs to actually get the ball in his hands and so far, nada.

Neither team is having any joy finding the end zone though the Als did manage to score two on a knee by the Esks in the end zone. Both have had decent, if not downright great field position, yet penalties and some good defensive efforts have limited the abilities of the offenses.

Bede missed his last FG and hits the uprights on this attempt............don't stand there looking stunned Boris........go practice more.

3rd Q: 34 - 15 for the Esks now...........and the Als need more than hope and prayers if they aren't going to pull this rabbit out of the hat.

Talk about overcoming adversity, Reilly has had his fair share tonight. No sooner does he get the D when the Esks are tagged with a 10-yarder and its back to where they began, again. I swear they must have gifted the Als almost two football fields by now. (419 total yards - so far.) Unfortunately, the Als have frittered away their chances and now as the 3rd comes to an end, they have but 15 minutes to mount a comeback.

Esks set to score another TD. No call on the play. Maas challenging DPI ..............and he wins. Cox interfered on Williams and that will place the ball on the 1 yard line. Reilly breaks the plain himself and the game is now outta sight for the Alouettes.

40 - 15 with just over 11 minutes left in the Q.........oops missed the convert, make that 41 - 15 for Edmonton.

Best that ex-Packer coach just leave things as they are. There is no sense putting Johnny in there now - none. Let Adams finish the game and chalk up yet another loss on the scoreboard.

You can't have Tucker! We're keeping him!

(To the tune of $US 4.25 mil a year!)

There is no player on the RBs roster by the name of Tucker. To whom do you refer, Tec?

7:43 and the Als manage to narrow the score with a TD and the 2-point covert.

41 - 23 Esks

Mitchell White of the Montreal Alouettes is being taken off the field in a stretcher after suffering a neck injury on a tackle that resulted in his head snapping back as it contacted the opposing players knee.

White connects on a FG from the 40. 44 - 23 with :58 left in the game.

Reilly went over 415 yards passing in the game and Williams clocked himself some big yards too.

That's all she wrote folks.

Toronto Argos are in Winnipeg for the second of their back-to-back games with the Bombers who easily won the first of the series.

Argos were unable to get on the scoreboard until midway through the 2nd Q while the Bombers managed to rack up 13 points.

James Wilder Jr rushed for close to 70 yards during a series of rushing plays leading to his final push over the goal line and the Argos first points of the game.

Matt Nicol gave up his first interception of the year, the Argos recovered the ball but failed to get into the red zone or FG range, they did benefit from an end zone kick and came away with 2 more points on the board narrowing the Bombers lead to 5.

2:29 left in the before the half and Demski just showed his stuff on the ground with 60+ yard run right into end zone to put the Bombers ahead 20 - 8.

So far the Argos have taken the majority of penalties and they've committed 4 TOs - don't win many ball games that way. Bombers turned the ball over once and have taken 1 penalty.

Make that 5 TOs for the Argos after Franklin threw a pass right into the waiting arms of Brian Alexander. Problem being that Brian plays for the Bombers.

Bombers finish off the 3rd Q with another Medlock FG to enter the 4th ahead of the Argos 26 - 8.

33 - 8 for the Bombers midway through the final Q and any chance of the Argos coming back disappeared with that TD. I expect the final minutes to be very grueling for the Argos as wells as fans. Trestman better raise holy hell with the team over the penalties they incurred tonight especially those taken after the whistle was blown. Lack of discipline was a big factor in the Argos second loss to the Bombers and their 5th of the season against a single win.

O'Shea can't stop grinning while Trestman looks pained. One of the reasons I like watching the Bombers play is because of the nifty plays that Mike will thrown in the game from time to time. They don't always work but when they do, they are so much fun to watch - the way they catch the opposition off guard.

Well TO did get another TD but Franklin was creamed before he could pass for the 2-point convert.

40 - 14 the final.

It is probably a good thing the forum was down yesterday as most of my posts about the Rider vs Stamps game would have been filled with expletives.

I have no idea what is going on in the heads of our coaching staff but whatever it is has little to do with designing plays that are not known to the opposition before the ball is even thrown. All the points that were put on the board yesterday were due solely to individual effort by a player and NOTHING to do with decent play calling. Brett Lauther was the star of the game for me for without his trusty leg and dead-eye dick ability to get the ball through the uprights - he connected on a 56-yarder last night and alone, accounted for 15 points.

Tobi Antigha was responsible for the only TD on the night and a defensive one at that. As Rob Vanstone wrote in the LP, "By returning an interception for a touchdown, Tobi Antigha had the right idea — keep the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ offence off the field." I could not agree more.

To make the loss even worse it took place in front of a sold out crowd at Mosaic. Great way to reward that kind of loyalty.

Final: 34 - 22

Worth a read for Rider fans.

Well, at the 1/3 point, my RBs are responsible for the East not being complete, pathetic losers. Their record is equal to or better than two West teams.

I know, it ain't much, but when you're an East fan, you take what you can get.
