Canada beat out the Swiss team today 4 to 1 to advance to the semi-final where they will play Finland. Russia after downing the US 5 to 3 also advances to the semi - they await the winner of the Sweden vs Slovakia game which is underway right now.

ROCK ON TEAM CANADA! :canada:

What's up with these Ruskies, especially the coach in red?

Not sure what that was about Kreskin but do know - though I wasn't able to catch the game myself - that some Russian players were taunting the US bench and one of the Ruskies got a stick in the face for his efforts. Was not expecting the Russians to win as the US team was solid throughout the tourney - maybe their loss to our Juniors took the wind out of their sails a bit.

Sweden blitzed the Slovaks yesterday so they will play the Russians on Saturday.

It seems a Russian player was posturing up close at the Americans. One American slapped him in the face with a hockey stick and here we go I guess some were still hot.....oh well...

Well we still have to beat the Fins before we meet the Swedes. Not a glorious end for the Swedes though when that player in the penalty box came out and gave a Russian player a bloody nose....probably a game suspension coming up there. The Russians out-shot the Swedes but Danske was great in goal for the team.

Game about to get underway.........GO CANADA, GO!

FUCALE.....FUCALE.....FUCALE

No gold medal this year. Maybe no medal at all. Canada lost 5 - 1 to the Finns. One positive thing is that quite a few of these players will be allegible to play next year with another full year under their belts. I can't see this team getting past the Russians to win the bronze.

Doesn't really matter. The only hardware that matters is gold. Good effort but doesn't matter if it's bronze or the participation trophy, its still not gold.

I don't believe that. Any team that wins gold knows that they could have, just as easily ended up with a silver.

No its what's happening to our game. We are into this no fighting and Lady Bing
hockey. Europeans can't take brutal poundings all the time so they take fighting
and the rough stuff out of the game so we can have this passing and shooting
and fancy crap. Give me mean spirited in the corners hammering each other any
day. Hockey has become the domain of the politically correct and the manner
police.
It is the game we are offering and I for one don't watch it that much anymore cause
its becoming as boring as soccer or as some call it football. Now there's a sissy
game. Little yellow cards and red cards handed out because someone got tripped.
this stuff bores me to tears, and hockey has finally become another boring sport

the rockem sockem days of hockey are old, stale, and lack in the knowledge of how to safely play a
tough rough game that is full of risks, in a way that saves players their sanity in later life.

the players now are bigger, faster, more talented, better equipment, better goalies, and the groping,
holding, and hanging onto players is over, one must have to skate now, and figure the game out, and
if they can't play very well, they won't be there, as fighting is slowly becoming less tolerated
than it use to be, but as the less talented player is gone, the game is now a highly talented,
fast game that has made its way to other countries on a more equal level than ever before, and
just because canada won't win all the time, doesn't mean less, it means more, that more and more
countries can play the game at the same high level, which means better things for the game.

i think it is a very healthy situation when this, or any other hockey tournament gets under way, with
all countries believing they have a chance, and canada's fans not being so nieve that they still think
their team must win, and if they don't there is something wrong.

come on, get with it, move forward, it is more fun now for everyone.

Well good on the Fins for the Gold Medal win and as bad as our kids might feel right now, I am quite sure the Swedish team feels that much worse losing at home. Fun game to watch. Rock on Finland.

Swedes got a gift goal thanx to refs bad call. Otherwise, it would have ended 2-1 in reg play. Excellent play by Finns.

IIHF defo is the best brand of ice hockey fun wise. Looking forward to seeing many of these guys in the NHL.
