Swedes got a gift goal thanx to refs bad call. Otherwise, it would have ended 2-1 in reg play. Excellent play by Finns.

IIHF defo is the best brand of ice hockey fun wise. Looking forward to seeing many of these guys in the NHL.

yeah, bo horvat will certainly make the canuck team next year, and a couple of others as well will be
in the nhl, but there will be eleven players back in this tournament, that will still be of age, so
the canadians will have a stronger team next time. that is the way it goes, ebbs and flows, because
some teams are quite young, and others more mature and experienced.

It looks like the game is passing us by. Canada was once the dominant force in world hockey.. we've stayed at a par and the rest of the world has caught up to us, and in fact, seems to be passing us. Congrats to Finland.

Some suggestions to get Canada back on track

1. Get rid of that butt ugly black and red 'flying man' jersey.
2. Start playing of European regulation ice surfaces (60 x 30M).. which puts a premium on passing, skating and playmaking.. rather the physical dominance (and is a much more entertaining).
3. Start bringing in European and American style junior development programs which put an emphasis of college rather Jr. A and minor professional leagues.. producing better rounded players.

- get rid of icing
- get rid of shootout
- force them to wear pink and pink medals until they start winning gold medals. ;)

If I'm reading the schedule correctly, the pre-tournament match betwixt Russia & Canada should be on tomorrow night at 7PM Eastern. 2015 Tourny begins next week and should be fun.

Pre-tournament game results:

Canada 5 - Sweden 2
Switzerland 3 - Slovakia 2
USA 5 - Germany 2
Finland 3 - Russia 2

Our kids got lucky in the 1rst P, let off a bit in the 2nd but came roaring back in the 3rd. Looks like Connor McDavid is getting his feet back under him again.

Get the feeling this is gonna be one first rate tourny once again.

Canadian roster: NHL.com - Canada sets World Junior Championship roster - 2015 World Junior Championship

it appears as if the USA roster has not been finalized:

NHL.com - USA Hockey cuts Panthers' Downing from WJC roster - 2015 World Junior Championship

USA to be in same group as Canada and Finland - should be very challenging. My chief concern with USA players is the lack of preparation in that you don't see enough two way play from them. I like good fore checking forwards as it disrupts break away attempts and other offensive schemes from the opponents. But we don't see enough of that in USA players. This largely because so many are from college lineups where there is limited practice and instruction compared to junior play where there are no such limits. Two way play can be highly tiring and the players need to be in really good shape to execute both types of game plan. Hopefully, the Yanks can meet this challenge.

Ottawa Senator's rookie Curtis Lazar has been named Team Captain for Canada. McDavid and Reinhart named as alternates. Really looking forward to this tournie, gopher..........hoping you are right about it being first rate.

GO CANADA, GO!

3 goals on 3 consecutive shots in 53 seconds for Canada against the Swiss in the 2nd P of the pre-tournie game. Man we have some really talented kids on this team - some of the puck work is a joy to behold.

Canada leads the Swiss 4 - 0 with under 3 minutes left in the 2nd.

Rock the Ice, Kids. Go, Canada, Go! :canada:

7 - 2 for the US over Sweden - Rock on USA

Always the match we look forward to, gopher.

Fer darn sure!

Canadians have offensive minded defensemen - all but one are left handed shooters. As usual, the Northlanders excel when they are the home team and have four lines all of which are deep with excellent quickness.

A tv report acknowledged what I had written earlier - that the Yank forwards are generally not good two way men. While they can shoot the day lights out of the opposing goalie, their lack of aggressive fore checking can be troubling as the D men will likely get overworked.

Canada 4 - Slovakia 0 early in 2nd P. Canadian kids looking pretty solid so far - they've out shot the Slovaks 22 to 4. Slovaks on their first PP.

Petan makes it 5 - zip for Canada after the Slovaks came up empty on the PP. Fucale really hasn't had to do much so far - oh nice save there though.

Domi on a fab pass from Reinhart makes it 6 - 0 with 3:46 left in the 2nd P.

Canada on PP, Reinhart picks up penalty for goalie interference - 4 on 4 and Petan makes it 7 - 0 on his 3rd goal tonight.

I almost feel sorry for the Slovak kids - they are way out-classed in this one.

2nd P intermission.

This time last year Canada trailed Slovakia 3 - 2 after the 2nd P - way better outcome so far.

3rd P: 32 - 11 SOGs for Canada.

Would absolutely love to go to the Molson rink and watch a game from the top of the mountain - Molson Rocks!

3:19 Virtanen makes it 8 - 0 for Canada.

Yeah Canada! Rock the ice guys. Shut-out for the kids in their first game.
8 -0

seven different scorers for Canada - and, as I pointed out earlier, the announcers praised them for being "200 footers" - that is players who play all over the ice both on offense and defense

superb puck control and distribution

forechecking kept puck in Slov zone all night long

Couldn't agree more, gopher...........our kids could steal a puck blind - they snatched it right off the sticks of the Slovak's time after time - it was so beautiful to watch. They did us proud, they did.

Connor McDavid scored Canada's opening goal early in the 1rst in our game against Germany. He sure has some smooth moves for a kid - that puck pass between his feet onto his stick - poetry in motion that is.

GO, CANADA, GO! :canada:

Would like to see them get something going on the PP though they are solid so far on the PK.

Our Captain Lazar just got a PP goal! 2 - 0 Canada!

They really back each other up well. Another nice PK for Canada.

End of 2nd P, Canada still up 2 - 0 but they let the game get away from them a bit and there was some really sloppy play on the PP that ended the P. Gotta pull up your socks kids - these guys are giving you a game and your goalie is doing his part.

Go, Canada!
