Not a chance, petros...........it will take awhile for the coaches to bring him up to speed on playing in the CFL - they've already seen what can happen when someone doesn't realize the two leagues are very different.

I'll find out if he's at the game anyway. my azz will be parked behind the visitors bench again.

Good to know when the camera swings that way. I would imagine he might travel with the team just to get a feeling for how the game is played North of the border........make sure you give him a good old Rider welcome.

I'm watching Mark Trestman's Chicago Bears play San Diego right now - Bears ahead by 2 TDs with 18 secs left in the 1rst Q. I rarely watch the NFL - but I am pulling for Mark to do well in his new position. Go Bears!

Two announcements in the CFL today. The Blue Bombers have signed former Hamilton HC Marcel Bellefeuille to their offensive coaching staff - sure hope he can help improve the Bombers fortunes. Always liked Marcel.

And, BC released back-up kicker Hugh O'Neill - oh he of the messy beard - today. I guess that means that Paul is back to full duties.

Now that the byes are behind us we can get back to watching a full slate of games this week. ROCK ON CFL!

First up, Hamilton will be in Winnipeg to take on the Bombers tonight.

Gotta wonder how things are on the bench in Bomber-land. First they kick Buck down to 3rd spot, then they announce that Goltz will be #1 – well that decision lasted exactly one week as today they announced that Max Hall is their #1 and get this, Buck is now #2 – what a merry-go-round. All this is starting to have an effect on the team as seen by a tweet sent by Bomber DB Jonny Sears when he criticized the release of RB Chris Garrett. Tim Burke was not amused.

Here’s a few stats on Max:

The latest quarterback is Max Hall, whose last gig as a starter was for Arizona in 2010, where he went 1-2. The win was a 30-20 stunner over the then-defending champion Pittsburgh Steelers (the Cardinals scored three defensive TDs). In the two losses, he threw for a combined 107 yards, tossed three picks and mustered a 18.6 QB rating.

http://www.thespec.com/sports-story/4035347-scenario-eerily-familiar-as-ticats-take-aim-at-bombers/

As for the Ti-Cats, I’ll let the Spec do the talking.

Key matchup

Ticats defensive tackle No. 99 Torrey Davis vs. Bombers guard No. 55 Paul Swiston. The youngster Swiston is in just his second CFL season and making his first start of the year in place of ineffective veteran Steve Morley. He'll need to get a handle on Davis, who was a disruptive force in the win over Edmonton and should be in better game shape after getting in a full week of practice. If Davis can collapse the pocket inside, that will make things even more difficult for Bombers rookie quarterback Max Hall.

Quotes

"There's no use in talking about the past. I feel like I'm a better father, a better person and a better kicker because of all of the experiences that I've had. Even the bad times were outstanding because you learned something. I could care less."
— Former Ticats kicker Sandro DeAngelis, who will handle the placekicking duties for the Bombers on Friday, on facing his former team

"I don't understand the whole Twitter mindset. If I'm the defensive co-ordinator and the offence is not doing well and I put on Twitter in the middle of a game that the offence is crappy ... I can think that. I can say that to somebody else. I don't need to say that to the whole world. Just because you have a thought, doesn't mean the whole world has to know it."
— Bomber head coach Tim Burke after Winnipeg defensive back Johnny Sears (@JJr0) took to Twitter to criticize the club for releasing running back Chris Garrett

"We actually have (an interception) — it was our punt returner. We're probably the first team in the history of football whose only interception is from our punt returner. We've had plenty of opportunities to have interceptions, we've dropped quite a few this year so our guys have to make plays. I think it will come."
— Ticat head coach Kent Austin on the fact that his team has just one interception on the season — from punt returner Lindsey Lamar.

Three things to watch

1. Who brought the kitchen sink to a football game?
With Max Hall starting at quarterback for the Bombers, look for Ticat defensive co-ordinator Orlondo Steinauer to blitz early and often in an attempt to take advantage of his inexperience. He'll also likely look to disguise certain coverages in order to confuse Hall, who will have to prove he can read CFL defences quickly.

2. Buck up

Former Blue Bombers starter Buck Pierce has been promoted to the backup role after being demoted to No. 3 for a couple of weeks. It's unlikely that Hall's leash will be long and if he struggles early and Winnipeg falls behind, don't be surprised to see Pierce take the reigns.

3. Loud

Just 24 hours before game time, there were only 1,500 tickets left for Friday's matchup. That means Investors Group Field, with its overhanging, noise amplifying roofs, should be disruptively loud. The Ticats, practising on the Mac campus, don't pipe in noise to simulate a hostile environment so their silent counts could be an issue.

Numbers

1-16

Hamilton's record when they give up 30-plus points since the start of the 2012 season. Conversely, they are 5-0 when giving up 29 or less. Since 2007, the Ticats are 6-53 when giving up 30-plus points in a game, 34-20 when they do not.

10

Number of quarterbacks who have made their first career CFL start for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers since 2000, including Max Hall, who is expected to get the call on Friday against Hamilton.

397

Number of receiving yards for the Ticats Bakari Grant since Week Two of the season, the highest total in the league. Of Grant's 27 catches over that span, 10 have been for first downs.

Great win by the Cats. Kudos to Ham DC Orlando Steinauer for the best outing of his defensive line this year - those kids worked hard out there. Loved how Weldon Brown came real close to a snatch on a knock down then on his very next chance he got his pick. Good read, Weldon.

Winnipeg defence was good against the Ham run for most of 3 quarters of play but they weren't so great against the passing of Hank Burris who threw for over 300 yards tonight. Max Hall put together one great drive tonight resulting in a TD pass to Kohlert. Winnipeg saw a fabulous 96 yard run by Woods to the end zone wiped after they were assessed 2 penalties on the play - 2 many men and off-side. That was pretty well the story of the game for the Bombers who took over 100 yards of penalties in the first 3 quarters. Terrence Edwards had his best night this season and had 100+ yards in the game - he was Max's go-to guy in several situations. His best run of the night saw him escaping the clutches of a Ham defender and scampering to the 11 yard line after rushing for 45 prior to the attempted tackle. Ian Wild scored the only other Bomber TD after he recovered a Bakari Grant fumble and took it to the end zone.

Ham put together drive after drive that saw Burris using seven of his receivers including Andy who got several touches. Ellingson was the big star for the Ti-Cats tonight becoming Hank's go-to guy for the most receptions in the game. Chris Gable finally got Ham's rushing game going in the second half and was instrumental on two Ham TDs. Hank is on pace to pass the 50,000 passing yard mark this year - not bad for an old fart. LOL!

Both Goltz and Buck Pierce saw some action late in the half but Hall was the main man for the Bombers. It will be very interesting to see if and where the ax falls this week in Winnipeg because after their 5th loss at home in front of close to a sold-out crowd, you can almost bet that someone's head is gonna role. It will be equally interesting to see if the Bombers will finally settle on a single QB for the team and allow him the time to develop - at this point they have little else to do and the merry-go-round has to stop.

37 - 18 the final score - a most convincing win for Kent Austin's Ti-Cats. Rock on Hamilton. They improve to 3 and 4 for the season sitting 4 pts behind TO who are at top spot in the East. Winnipeg drops to 1 and 6 remaining in the league basement.

Correction on my last post: Winnipeg have lost only 4 games at home, not 5 - apologies to Bomber fans.

In little over an hour for now, the Montreal Alouettes will take on the Sask Roughriders in front of another sold-out crowd at Mosaic the 3rd highest attendance record during the regular season at 40,637. From what I have been reading on fan forums folks have come from all over to watch this match - one fellow and his buds are coming all the way from Alabama for the game - now that's dedication.

Montreal will be hoping to see their first win under acting HC Jim Popp but they will have to contend with a Rider team that is anxious to get back to their winning ways after a loss last week to Calgary.

Don't know if Anthony happened to catch the TSN panel last night as they discussed the worst effort by a player this season but I am sure he would agree with Milt and Schultz that his performance has been wanting. I don't blame Tony for all the ills besetting the team this season but he is their main man and has to step up in his role as leader of the offence - will be very interesting to see how he does this time out knowing that sooner or later Montreal's newest addition Troy Smith will be battling for #1 spot at pivot.

I am hoping to see a much more disciplined effort by my team in this game. They were one of the least penalized in the CFL going into the game last week and need to get back to playing a much cleaner style of football - penalties are momentum killers as well gifts to the opposition. I really like Corey's one game approach to the season - no looking down the road for our guys - its game by game one win at a time.

Weston and Jock were back at practice this week but I have yet to read/hear if they will be good to go for the game. Sam Hurl is on the injured list but other than those three players no changes have been made to the line-up which is good news as this continuity bodes well for the team.

The weather in Regina is forecast to be hot and sunny today - they are currently sitting at a balmy 26'.

Time to start getting my game-day gear ready...............now where did I put my watermelon helmet?

The good news is we pulled off a win. The bad news is that we had too.

It was a thrilling end to what at times was a ho hum game ruled by each team’s defence. Anyone having left the stadium early missed one of the best finishes in a CFL game this year.

I imagine the odds coming into the game were heavily in favor of Sask but as the game played out it looked as if Montreal was set to even the odds – they led twice in the game. After losing Anthony Calvillo (4/8 – 85 yards) with apparent head injury after a clean hit by Ricky Foley, the team was forced to turn to Josh Neiswander (12/30, 147 yards, 2 interceptions) who saw his first CFL start early in the 2nd Q.

Double D was flat tonight. He missed his receivers with over-throws on way too many passes. He gave up 2 fumbles – one that led to a 54-yard Montreal TD on the TO. He did manage to connect with Getzlaf, Weston, Geroy, Kory and Taj on several plays but his best was a 65 yard pass to Taj Smith for a late TD in the 4th.

Jock Sanders mishandled the kick-off return on the opening series of the 2nd half, turning the ball over to Montreal on the 11 yard line. The Rider D held Montreal to 3 points but it was one too many blunders for Jock and Weston took over his duties.

Geroy is the only the 3rd player in CFL history to surpass the 1,000 yard career reception mark on what was an otherwise ordinary pass.

Once again, the Riders were authors of their own misfortunes when they took costly penalties at important times in the game. Twice they set up Montreal deep in Rider territory. Were it not for big stops by the Rider D-line, the score would have been heavily in favor of Montreal – instead they were limited to a series of FGs.

Chris Milo was the game saver – with no time left on the clock - he was good on his attempt from the 36 yard line to put the Riders ahead by 3 points for the win. It was his 16th consecutive FG of the season. ROCK ON CHRIS!

Another big story of the game was the kicking of Ricky Schmitt who had three punts go over 60 yards. ROCK ON RICKY.

Rob Bagg was forced to leave the game late in the first half after his knee apparently gave way on a routine play. He did walk off the field but did not return to play in the second half. Here’s hoping it is not too serious, Rob.

It was the first game where Kory failed to go over 100 yards and that said a lot about the Montreal defence. Kory was also stricken by dropsy tonight missing on two of DD’s passes.

The Riders squeaked this one out 24 to 21 to reclaim first in the West – for now – Calgary will again try to tie them when the play BC later today. I would say the team has a lot of work to do before they play Edmonton next Saturday because they played really poorly tonight against a team with a back-up QB and numerous injuries to key players. Not a good outing by my Riders.

Watching pre-game show for the Lion's game - the fans are in for a surprise as was the team when it was presented with brand new gun-metal black uniforms. Ooooh they look nasty - the team seems to love them.

My heart would love to see Calgary lose this one but my head tells me they are the better team so far this season. Hopefully the Lions have some new tricks up their sleeves, Lulay gets back to a comfort zone and the Lions give the Stamps a good game.

Nope. Anthony wanted the hell out of there.

Why? He didn't look particularly penned in by people..........too bad, might just have been the last chance to see him in Mosaic.

yep, awsome, nail biter right till the end.

Great game by your guys, talloola. I love the new unis. They certainly helped the Riders out with the win.

Edmonton vs Toronto

Best display of aerial tactics in the CFL this year – over 900 offensive passing yards.

Mike Reilly: 35/46 – 511 yards and 3 TDs – 0 interceptions

Ricky Ray: 30/35 – 413 yards and 3 TDs – 0 interceptions and tied club record for most consecutive completions. He was hot.

The night was rift with hi-lit reel material for receptions and a couple of the weirdest plays.

The best, IMO, catch of the game came off a scrambling Mike Reilly Hail Mary pass that bounced off the helmet of one TO defender, through the hands of two others then dropped into the waiting hands of Kary Koch – flat on his back on the turf! A close second was a 31-yarder from Mike to Chambers in the end zone catching the ball despite being draped, literally by TO’s Carter. Chiles 31 yarder in the end zone deserves honorable mention.

In spite of his record tonight, Ricky was not w/o miscues – he dropped a snap that led to a fumble which he quickly recovered then threw downfield somehow finding Chilles for a big gain on the play. On another miscue, Ricky had one punched out but one of his linebackers recovered and got back over the line of scrimmage – a similar situation also a TO linebacker save Ricky’s bacon. The Argos could almost do no wrong tonight.

Toronto scored on their opening drive of the game driving 79 yards downfield on 5 plays to complete the drive with Robinson catching his first in the end zone.

Edmonton’s drive was equally impressive but the T.O. D held them to a field goal.

The Argos were 2 and out on their next drive but pinned the Esks at their 10 on Prefontaine’s kick.

Despite starting deep in their end zone, the Esks moved the ball down to the 20 before once again being forced to kick a FG. Shaw was good from the 38 and the Esks trailed by 1 at the end of the 1rst Q.

The Esks took the lead early in the 2nd on a Grant Shaw FG at 13:36. The Argos struck right back and helped by a 15-yard Esk penalty, Ricky found Barnes in the end zone and TO regained the lead.

Scoring drives were stalled until late in the Q when the Esks took possession on their own 5 and marched the ball downfield for a Kary Koch TD to trail by 2. The Argos replied with a drive of their own that saw Prefontaine add another 3 points to the Argos’ score giving them a 17 – 16 lead at the half.

The Argos extended their lead midway through the 3rd Q when Ricky found Chilles in the end zone with a 31-yarder after a 90-yard drive from the 20. The Esks went 2 and out their next possession but their D-line stepped up to force the same on the Argos.

The Esks struggled with poor field position often during the game and were forced to concede 2 pts when they couldn’t get the ball out of the red zone. On the next series the Argos got past the Esk’s D-line and Ray found Owens this time for the end zone TD to go ahead 33 to 16 which would stay that way to end the period.

TO was forced to a FG attempt on their next possession but Prefontaine hit the upright – dead ball, no point. Esks got lucky there. However, on their next possession which was highlighted the amazing Koch catch, they too were forced to a FG attempt and Shaw missed from the 28. That miss would loom large over the team after Mike Reilly with his best field position of the game took the team downfield and found Chambers in the end zone and they were down by 10. They would pull w/in 7 points when Shaw was once again called upon and came through with a 3 pointer from the 20.

With the score 33 to 26 for the home team and just over 2:10 left in the game, it looked as if the Esks just might have a chance to tie the game but that hope was dashed as the Argos put up another 3 points on a Prefontaine FG and again lead by 10.

In spite of that, Mike Reilly took his team downfield finding Stamps in the end zone with one second left on the time clock – it was a valiant drive in a losing effort.

I was very impressed with Mike tonight. He needs to work on his timing but that will come. His accuracy improves with every game and he and Stamps have a great thing going.

O’Dell Willis was the best defensive player for the Esks all night – he was 100%. Good to see him back to the good old ways.

It was penalties – AGAIN- that killed the Esks. It’s way past bench time, Kavis – those guys lost this game for the team.

TO on longest winning streak since 2007 with 4 straight wins – all over 30 pts. They sit way top of the Eastern Division 6 points ahead of Hamilton.

Game by game, Edmonton is getting more organized.

Agree with you about the team, petros............but I gotta say Kavis seriously needs some time in a quiet room. The vid of his penalty taking entrance onto the field is viral on a lot of forums today - what a display of incompetence and I like Kavis but this has to stop.

Great news for the Riders as both Kory and Tyron Brackenridge tweeted that Rob Bagg was running the stairs in practice today - you don't do that with a serious knee injury so this is super news for Rob and the team.

Bad news for the Stamps as Nik Lewis will be out for at least 6 weeks with a broken fibula - heal fast Nik - love to watch you play.

And the Alouettes woes continue as both Anthony Calvillo and Brandon London will miss this Thurs' game with concussions. In addition, Josh Burke and Kyries Hebert will be out with as yet undetermined knee injuries and Martin Bedard is out with a suspected shoulder separation.

As per my last post about the Bombers..........another head has rolled in Winnipeg when management announced that they have fired OC Crowton and replaced him with Marcel Bellefeuille. Rock on Marcel - hope you can bring some consistency to the O-line.

I am a Riders Fan but I hate BC more than Calgary. I hope BC goes down
the drain they were in ugly uniforms as well. No I don't like Calgary I don't
like BC even more.
