TSN on-field game caller, Chris Cuthbert made a remark at half-time to the effect that Marcel Desjardins the Ottawa RedBlacks GM must be salivating right now. For those not in the know, that was a reference to the fact that Ottawa has first dibs in the coming CFL draft. According to the rules governing the draft, every CFL team is allowed to protect only one QB - which leaves most back-ups eligible. After watching the performance of four new starters this week, I would say the only reason he may have a tough decision is that they are all worthy of consideration.
Duanne Ford figured that Adam Bighill will have nightmares about Zach Collaros so deftly did the TO pivot evade the BC tackle. Whether it was evading tackles, running for yards or downs, finding his receivers with great accuracy, Zach seemed to have an answer to whatever the BC defence had in store for him. He committed one fumble but in his defence it was the newcomer Curtis Steele who knocked it out of his hands. Never-the-less it led to a Lion recovery and marked the only Argo TO in the game. Zach would finish the night - 21 of 25 for 253 yards, 3 TDs, 0 interceptions and 28 rushing yards.
Curtis Steele, replacing Chad Kackert, would go overboard in redeeming himself as he led the Argos downfield rushing for 74 yards on 12 touches and 2 late half TDs - the last a flying leap over the entire BC defensive line. Jason Barnes leaped up between two BC defenders in the end zone to bring down his TD. Alexander Robinson and John Chiles scored the other two Argo TDs.
The Argo offence was able to stop every single drive for a major mounted by BC who had little trouble moving the ball downfield by were stopped short of their goal on every attempt. BCs time of possession was much higher than TOs but that did not reflect the numbers on the scoreboard.
Meanwhile, the #1-ranked defence in the CFL was unable to do the same to the Argo offence.
Travis was 20 of 30 for 226 0 TDs and 1 interception.
Paul moved into 4th postion on all-time CFL scoring list for his four completions - the only points the Lions would score on the night.
Lack of discipline didn't help BC's cause. Just before half-time, after the play had been called both teams were assessed unnecessary roughness penalties at 15 yards a piece. The difference was that TO drew one whereas BC drew 3 - 30 yard gain for the Argos on just that penalty alone.
38 to 12 Argo win and they improve their record to 3 and 2 and remain top spot in the East.
