Montreal scored 24 unanswered points in the first quarter of their game against the Stamps. They would not score another until late in the 4th Q as the Stampeders mounted the largest comeback, after the 1rst Q, in CFL history. The Montreal defense didn't fare much better, though able to limit several of Calgary's drives to FGs, they also gave up over 50 yards in penalties.

The Stampeders were solid on defence and effective on offense. Kevin Glenn was taken out of the game after sustaining an injury as he delivered a 45 yard pass to McDaniels at the 10 yard line. Glenn knew he was going to get hit but he held off long enough to get McDaniel in position. He was not taken to the locker room but he did not return to the game. Rock on Kevin. Hope you heal fast. Jon Cornish would fight his way to the end zone on the next play and Calgary would take the lead for the first and final time in the game. They never looked back. The Stamps O-line didn't miss a beat when Bo Levi took over the reigns adding another 16 points to the scoreboard for 38 - 27 win over the Alouettes. Really great game. Stunning come-back. Rock on Stamps.

Andrew Harris got a hat-trick for the BC Lions in their win over the Edmonton Eskimos last night. Edmonton led through two quarters but were unable to seal the deal as the Lions roared back in the third and owned the last quarter. Emmanual Arceneaux took the ball over for the Lions on a spectacular 77-yard passing play that broke the 10 - 10 tie. Travis was 18 of 24 for 284 yards on the night. The Lions won 31 to 21.

In the final game of the week in the CFL, the Hamilton Ti-Cats will be hoping that having Andy Fantuz back in the line-up will spur the team to a much needed win. The Riders, no doubt, have other ideas as Batman will finally be making his first debut with the team. No announcement on whether Darian will start the game after suffering an injury last week. Drew Willy - no slouch as back-up QB sealed the deal for the Riders last week but it would be great to have Darian back as pivot.

Game times: 4pm PST/7 pm EST

GO RIDERS........LET'S MAKE IT 4 IN A ROW GUYS!

(I'll be looking for you pedro.)

4 and 0 baby

I am seriously beginning to think my Riders are for real this year - seriously. LOL!

Teams on the south side of the field faced a steady 50k wind for most of the night and it played havoc with punts and kick-offs. The Riders elected to have the wind in the 4th though by then it was really a moot point.

By the 4th Q, the Ti-Cats had all but given up on trying to get to Darian in the pocket - his protection was that good - the offense all but built a wall around him. Didn't take the whole line and at times 3 men were enough to give our QB the time he needed to deliver. And boy did he deliver tonight but he wasn't the only one.

Kory Sheets, Weston Dressler, Rob Bagg, Superman, Craig Butler and the entire D-line, the entire O-line, special teams, Saunders, Dan Clark - fps .......I could go on. They were a TEAM tonight. Each side held their own. The O won on the ground and in the air. The D won by completely shutting down the Hamilton O - all night. They remain the ONLY unbeaten team in the CFL.

Kory Sheets now holds the record for best 4-game start ever in the CFL. He was over 100 yards again tonight and over 545 on the season. Hamilton managed to shut him down for most of the first half - his gains were limited but into the 3rd he started to roll and by the 4th the opposition was almost setting up lanes for him, so easily did he deke and duck through the Hamilton D.

Rob Baggs .......Rob Baggs....not content to score his first at home TD, decided to make it 2 - the last a 60-yard pass and run to the end zone. The crowd went wild and gave him 2 standing Os. Rob had been the recipient of some unfavorable views by Sask fans as he struggled w/ dropsy last year. Nice to see him back in the good books.

Craig Butler intercepted a Burris pass in the end zone to prevent the only real chance of a TD for Hamilton in the game. He would also get a sack on Hank later in the game forcing the Cats to another 2 and out. The Riders put 3 on the board off that TO.

The 13th man played their part causing 3 Hamilton off-sides with the noise they created - they must be able to hear them in Lumsden.

Geroy was in for one catch in the 2nd but his real debut came in the 3rd on a 32-yard pass which he took to the 20. The Riders would score on the next play when, with great deflection, Darian rolled out of the pocket and found Dan Carter - an offensive lineman - all alone in the end zone. Rock on George Cortez - great call. Hamilton had no clue. It was a thing of beauty. Poor Dan didn't even know what to do with the ball afterward. LOL!

Darian did throw one interception on the night but a roughing the passer call against the Ti-Cats wiped that out. Otherwise, he was 20 of 32 for 347 yards. You could tell he had missed a few practices as it took him the first half before he really got his rhythm going - then...try and stop him. He also ran for two first downs, though I am sure Corey had a word of two to say afterwards.

Rickey Foley registered another sack with a beaut on Hank and Chris Milo kicked a career-best 47 yarder - one of 3 in the game.

Great photos, petros.....................thank you for sharing them. Which one are you??? The one in the driver's seat???

Baggs, Sheets, Clark...............they all came to play even the guys who just went about their jobs and didn't get mentioned. Geroy did exactly what he was hired to do - catch a pass when it really matters. He only has to do that once in every game and I'd gladly pay his wages.

Being right behind the Ham bench you must have got an eyeful when Kent chewed Hank out - they showed it on TV. I do have to admit that had Andy been in the line-up, the Cats might have at least got a FG. Bakari Grant carried the team on play after play - he was their star yesterday, IMHO.

Sneaky of Kent to mosey out on the field before he was announced - heard he got mixed reviews and that the biggest boos were saved for Hank. LOL!

Good stuff. I regretted that the Baltimore Stallions left town when the Ravens came.

Let me add to that. I would like to see the CFL expand like the NHL did (OK, maybe not quite that much). Both as sort of a "minor league" to the NFL, and for quality football in its own right, I think it would be good for the non-NFL cities in the U.S. I also think greater American interest would expand football in Canada, leading to more Canadian teams.

I could hear Austin yelling then the Hennnnnnnnnnry, Hennnnnnnnnnry started up again. We razzed him but good. My buddy lost his voice in the third quarter. I'm thinking of taking up the offer for these seats on Aug 17.

I would have preferred Mtl and Edm winning on Saturday for the cushion but we're still #1 in the league.

They were the US expansion teams. Baltimore won Grey Cup in 94

No, the Stallions were CFL. After the Baltimore Colts (NFL) left town for Indianapolis, Baltimore enthusiastically supported the CFL Stallions in the '94 and '95 seasons, which included a Grey Cup victory. When the Cleveland Browns (NFL) moved to Baltimore and became the Ravens, the Stallions folded their tent, figuring they couldn't compete with the NFL. So the owner moved the team to Montreal, where they are now the (third) Alouettes.

I miss 'em.

 Shame on me forgetting CFL history...................must have had a senior's moment. LOL! Thanks for reminding me, Tec. Can't blame the Stallions for Montreal's dismal efforts so far though.

I wish we still had the Stallions. Ravens fan that I am, every time I go to a game it is impressed upon me more and more deeply that I am a cash cow to the Ravens, and nothing more. Tickets are outrageous, until you see the price of a beer. And there's always the pleasure of being frisked before you're allowed in the stadium (I am not exaggerating or joking). A Stallions ticket was reasonably priced, the crowds were not shoulder-to-shoulder mayhem, you didn't have to arrive at the stadium at least three hours in advance to be sure of seeing the kickoff, and the fans were more of a community.

The Ravens stadium has an on-site jail. No joke. What a wonderful community experience!

I like smaller-league sports. They seem to hold a lot truer to the notions of community, competition, and fun.

Your memories of the Stallions sound very much what it is like to be a Rider fan, Tec - though you may have to stand in line for awhile before the games - haven't got back for one in a long time so not positive - petros would know. I know there isn't a jail anywhere near the stadium as I did get back to do a walk-through a couple of years back.

The Riders would not be what they are today without their fans. It was the fans who came to the rescue when the club was in trouble years ago. It is the fans who have helped build the team to what it is today with their continuing support both on field and off. Rider merchandice is Primo stuff in the CFL and flies off the shelves - that's why the club is sooo popular with Mark Cohon - CFL commish - lot of money in their coffers too.

Your comment about the smaller-league sports rings true for most teams in the CFL - though not so much in the big Eastern cities. On the prairies, football teams and hockey teams generally haul in large crowds and generate loyal fans. I would love to see the CFL expand but never ever to the size of the NFL - as if that would ever happen LOL - for the very reasons you miss the old days of Stallion football.

If you ever get a chance to take in a Rider game, Tec............it will be an experience you may always cherish - the sea of green is a sight to behold - you might want to wear ear protection though. LOL!

From the Leaderpost – Murray’s Monday Morning Mutterings

Murray’s Monster from Sunday’s game was receiver, er, fullback, um, tight end, I guess, offensive lineman Dan Clark. Rob Bagg had five receptions for 125 yards and two touchdowns and was so close to earning the honour. Bagg will score more touchdowns and based on his recent performances, he will be in the running for more awards. I was just so impressed by how the whole team celebrated Clark’s eight-yard touchdown pass. He was so wide open that he might have passed out from embarrassment if he had dropped it. Still the manner in which the Riders engulfed Clark told me just how tight the team is after four games. Corey Chamblin talks about family a lot and Clark’s touchdown was one of those special moments for any football family. I know how hard Clark has worked to become a professional football player and how much he has put into the game. I also thought of all that he did when deciding to make him my Monster.”

Mine too, Murray.........the other's will have their time in the sun......this is Danny's moment to shine.

Dan after the game - “It's an unbelievable experience. I've never got a touchdown in my life. For the first to come at the CFL level was great. Taking the ball to my dad (Rob) was probably one of the proudest moments in his life." Clark has been deployed at tight end since the Roughriders' second game of the regular season, helping to protect Durant and to open holes for Kory Sheets.”

I do have to give Rod his due though.

Geroy Simon after the game – “It was amazing and that's why I wanted to come here and play in front of those fans,'' said Simon, whom the Roughriders acquired in the off-season from the B.C. Lions. "It was an electric atmosphere and I was so jacked to get the chance to play. It was great to put on the jersey and have a chance to run around.'' The fans also appreciated having Simon in the lineup. He received a loud ovation after his first reception of six yards in the first quarter.

"It's not always going to be pretty and you're not always going to have the game that you want as far as the stats line,'' said Simon. "I didn't come here for stats. I came here to win football games and help this team get to where we want it to go. We're taking the steps, but we have to keep taking it one step at a time.''

Mark Cohon about the Grey Cup – “I think for the last five years, starting in Calgary, every Grey Cup has sold out four to five months in advance,'' Cohon said prior to Sunday's game. "This is really built in. It has always been a national celebration, but has really taken on a new meaning for the country. The fact that's it's sold out far in advance is something that we have been expecting.'' Wednesday's announcement marks the first time that the Grey Cup game has sold out in Regina. The 1995 game, in which the Baltimore Stallions defeated the Calgary Stampeders 37-20, was played before 52,064 spectators. In 2003, the Edmonton Eskimos defeated the Montreal Alouettes 34-22 before 50,909 onlookers at Taylor Field.

What I noticed was the Riders trying enthusiastically to run up the score late in the game. They better save some if this for when it counts. The CFL has a graveyard full of teams who came out of the shoot in full throttle but withered when others got their acts together.

The Lions were looking great on Saturday. Did they run up the score for fun or for player and game statistics?

What I noticed was the Riders driving the ball downfield with less than a minute to go then at the 10-yard line with time left to take the ball over, they took the knee and ran out the clock. I really wouldn't call that running up the score.

With 6 minutes left they and a 30-0 lead they still had all the first stringers on offense, and they were using 100% effort to get another touchdown. The Ti-Cats had already given up. Teams don't forget when the opponent is working to embarrass them. Just sayin, what goes around comes around.
