Goes with the territory of having a country and government. Governments inherit responsibilities from their predecessors including the mistakes. If we are going to go down the path you suggest then why bother pay the national debt at all? A big chunk of that was spent before quite a few of us were born or when we were too young to have a say,

This whole discussion was actually started when someone wondered if gay people could serve as front line troops. As stupid as that is all by itself I thought that I would point out that even if human being was unable to be a front line soldier because of their sexual orientation it would not stop them from being one of the dozens of military people who are required in order to field a single front line soldier.

gawd.. not Harper. He is one of the string of mediocrities and quislings that have ruled Canada from Mulroney, Chretien, Harper, J. Trudeau. The NeoCons were every bit as bad as the NeoLibs.
Essentially there was no difference between them exept the patter meant to appeal to electoral franchises. Harper was no social conservative and he was a fanatical anti-nationalist economic liberal. He was a pure Reagan/Thatcher trickledowner in the pay of the global trading and financial cartels. They are all responsible for the deindustrialization and wealth polarization with which we are now afflicted.
We need a true social conservative who can reestablish the moral order on which the country was founded.. and an economic policies which are nationalist, populist, dirigiste, progressive. Those that define traditional economic conservatism.
Anyone wanting to get elected in Canada will only do so by appeasing the majority communist ideologues. We are getting what we deserve.
