So it's a good thing we don't have an inheritance tax then isn't it? Don't know for how long though. Between the Liberals, NDP and Greens, I suspect we can look forward to it being taxed eventually along with any personal assets (i.e. primary residence). Government spending is so prolific that they are continually looking for where they can get more revenue so it's only a matter of time, I'm sure.
It would take 19 people about 75 years to eat a billion calories. An average person eats about 55 million calories in 75 years.
How many are aware that since 2016 there is now capital gains tax on sale of principal-residence land over (I think) 1.25 acre? A nasty surprise if you sell your 5-or-10-acre homestead, and didn't know about it.
Does this include ALR land that you are not allowed to subdivide and barely even able to live on.
I don't know about ALR issues but I believe you can argue - plead your case - if the land is not subdividable for any reason, or maybe if your well or septic system are outwith the (1.2ac?) area that's not taxable for capital gains.
I'm not knowledgeable about the details - it's just what someone I know is unexpectedly having to go through. Be warned if you'll have acreage to sell in future.
Primary residence, buildings, and land is already taxed at the municipal level, assets are taxed at purchase the only thing that was left to tax was air now the Carbon tax got that as well.
