Hitting kids is such a funny topic, I wonder how many people here have permanent brain damage from their parents raging during a drunken stupor?

You obvously met the buckle of a belt on a few occaisons Gerry, what else could instill this phoney belief in a god that you hold so dear? If anyone is to rot in hell, you are at the front of the line, Gerry.
with god being phony then hell would be phony too...one would assume....

I cant figer out this anti spanking thing......it seems to me that those in the pharmacutical industry are the ones behind the push to stop " child abuse" and I use the term loosely. there is obviously no money to be made from a child that behaves itself...... afterall, there is no scientific evidence to prove add adhd exists

I'm having real problems with the stupidity of some people.

The brain of the child with ADD can be likened to a "flickering light". Everyone's brain produces electricity and the different frequencies of the brain waves are associated with different mental states. People with A.D.D. produce an abundance of slow waves and show less fast wave activity. A sudden burst of slow wave activity - Alpha or Theta - in the middle of a complex tasks is equivalent to the individual being tuned out for that moment in time. People with ADD can attest to the frustration of continually finding that, despite the best of intent and even despite major interest in a topic, they miss key points and sections of a lecture only minutes after it has begun. Although most people occasionally experience getting to the end of a page of reading only to realize that their mind has been somewhere else, persons with ADD who have not developed specific counter strategies do this most of the time. With ADD, one may be thinking very intently and creatively internally while ignoring what is being said by a teacher. In addition, even when the individual has not been thinking about something else internally, their mind has not, so to speak, gone into gear and become actively involved in the passage. Being actively involved requires a state associated with faster brain waves - Beta activity.

It really doesn't matter....I KNOW what ADD/ADHD is. I KNOW it's real. I have had to deal with it for 28 years....so anything you post to the contrary I will just consider bullshyte.

once again I notice how quick one is to turn "off" anothers opinion eh?!
oh...you too...well, I have a nefew who was "diagnosed" by doctor with having add/adhd.
I told his mother he suffers from sms....stupid mother syndrome.
she raised him on coke, coke for brekky, coke for lunch, etc
all he needed was someone to love and understand him.
he used to come and stay with me, his sm decided she didnt want him to because I refused to give him his mind altering drugs....I dont have any problems with him at all, he does what I ask him to do and he is very pleasant and very polite.
add adhd dont exist mate believe me.... I've proved that it doesnt!

you've proved it by knowing one kid, who behaved well for you while his meds were still in his system? Give me a break.

I'll grant you that it's overdiagnosed, but it sure as hell exists.

after 2 weeks one would assume his meds werent in his system....and if they were still in his system WHY were they????
listen...his mum told him one day to rewind the video so she could take it back to the rental place
he grabbed it and took it down stairs...I followed him
he was about to wash it with the hose.
I came up behind him and gave him a clip behind the ear and told him to take it back up stairs. he dropped like a stone... nevewr had anyone do that to him before,
affter that I never had a problem with him at all.
a bit of discipline goes a long way.... I read somewhere....cant remember where now, but it said, "spare the rod, spoil the child"

You still don't/didn't have to deal with him on a day to day basis. Everyone ALWAYS feels they know better than the parent of the problem kid. That's the way it goes. But I've seen phenomenal parents struggle with ADD kids. I've seen ADD kids talk about how they feel, how they can't function right. You're providing a ridiculously imbalance view, based on one kid, of something that afflicts families that cross ALL styles of diet and discipline.
