Hey, eh1eh- epic plants JUST shipped out a crap-load of purple pitcher plants, they're practically everywheres nowadays, take a look in any pond section next time you're in such a place, they'll be in bright blue square-type containers for around 15$
My backyard has a slope to it that renders it useless for sitting at tables. I am working on putting in a 12' diameter sun wheel design with roses, holly, tulips and a yet to be decided plant.
Well time for an update here.
The pics are big but that way they are all there. Anyone can copy and resize to suite their personal needs.
Damn. I rotated the last one but still it's cockeyed. C'est la vie. Lay down to look at it. She's my meditation lady so that would be fitting.
Edit: OK it's right today. Just look at it whichever way you need.

Oh. Karrie. It's been almost 13 months since you moved into your new place. I know you've been breaking your back, and hubby's too, to whip the place in shape. Have you had a chance to get to some flowers this spring or have upgrades to the facilities won the day. Hey even a pic of your progress of your garden to be would be interesting. Hmmm? 
Eh1eh your pond looks amazing! I have to admit that I am a bit jealous of your garden. I am in the process of building a house on 5 acres. So right now all I have is dirt (very dry dirt!) and wheat stubble! I hope to be in the house by January or February and then start working the land next spring. Maybe I will have some pictures to share with you in 5 years!
I've got a nice small pond, but I've never taken a picture of it, I'll have to get busy and do
that. I put fake lilly pad/flower thingeys in it when I first finished making it, but my dog
ate them, so that was that.
I have loved gardening since I was first married, as that is the first time I actually lived in
a real house with a yard that belonged to me, I was so excited.

loves playing in the dirt like you do", I took it as a complement, but I don't think she could
figure me out, as she 'read' all day, and hardly ever came out of her house.

We were in Toronto visiting the folks over Christmas and took the mrs to look at some houses. A lot different from our one in the UK but she did say that the new ones were so big they had no garden space left on the plot. I guess people don't go outside much anymore, not like when I was a kid in our old house with the big garden. Must be profits, as many houses on each development that they can squeeze in.
My Mom was the gardener of the house. A brook ran through the property and a small bridge made out of flagstones traversed the brook. It was a tiered rock garden with the majority of the plants being perennials. Once she had it the way she wanted it, it was chosen for the annual house and garden tour. The smell of that garden was glorious.

Okay, so, you've all heard me talk about the chaos that is my home. It's finally starting to come together though. So, as per Eh's request (sorry I'm late getting to it), I'll post a photo montage here so you all can see how far we've come.
This was my home when we moved in, there was siding on the front but the garage and the other 3 sides of the house were stucco which we (actually we... I really helped) peeled off (not as easy as it might sound).
Here is the stripping... look ma, no window! (that perennial bed below the window was added by me, btw.
In the back yard we started work on a covered patio. While drilling for pilings we discovered that the water/sewer were over further than we'd been told.
More of the rough backyard...

Okay, so, I got to help roof this weekend as we wrapped up the roof project (which is why I decided to not post earlier eh1eh... because the pics showed OSB, and I knew it would be finishe right quick). BTW... I hate heights, and do not make a good roofer. Nope, not at all. The patio roof still isn't totally finished, the posts will be wrapped in white fascia, and the underside done in white soffets (sp?).
In keeping with our 'foodscaping' theme, this is our new pear tree, and a new veggie bed (peas, turnips, onions, dill, lettuce, and radishes)
Just a few of the pots I've done up, still coming in. They've been seeded exclusively to edibles. Colored swisschard, nasturtiums, and herbs.
Again, along the food theme, we've planted an apple tree here, and the bed along the house has been done to carrots, while the new (somewhat slapped together) bed along the fence has both potatoes and tomatoes in it.
In general, things are coming together. We still have to tie the work we did these last couple weeks in properly with the rest of the fascia, build a garden shed so our hose reel and toys, etc aren't lying around the yard, and do some final landscaping at the back of the yard. But all in all it looks a bit better than it did this time last year. Just a bit.
Having a hubby who just never seems to get tired enough to stop moving seems to help get stuff done though. lol

As an interesting side note if you look past our yard into the neighbors, all the green in his yard is fruit trees. His yard has two plums, a cherry, an apple with 4 varieties grafted, and a pear. The amount of fruit that comes out of his yard is ridiculous. I get to make many many crisps in the summer.

Wow karrie, looks like you've turned a neglected house into a shinny new one. Nice set up in the back yard too. Hot tub is just the thing for you're area too. Can you keep it at 104F in the middle of the winter? BTW is that a Beachcomber? I've been looking at those, they say they have no trouble staying warm in the winter.
All told I'd say all that butt busting you and hubby have done is bearing fruit. (to stay in the foodscaping theme here) :smile:

This hot tub is actually a Polar Spas tub. BeachComber here in town acted like we should have dressed up a bit, erm, richer, to walk into their store and warrant their attention. I'd have gladly bought their product otherwise, as our last two tubs were BeachComber tubs, and we loved them.
This particular tub has an ozonator as well so that it requires way less chemical to stay clean. I love that feature. It means I don't stink like chlorine all the time.
