Everyone should be equal. Therefore, since you have more rice in your pantry the gov't should force you to give the difference to me. And I probably have more stout in my fridge than you so I should be forced to give you some.
The feds can not legaly touch the oil...period.
;-)Not so nice is it when someone else dictates the rules. Screw Ontario! With the west's electric, oil, grain and all kinds of other natural resources it would be nice to draw a new border straight north of Thunder Bay (T-Bay would not exist without the west's resources). Ontario and Quebec have run this country long enough and since they refuse to do anything to give the west more say in running it then let 'em rot. Long live the Northwest republic of the Americas!;-)

Ontario and Quebec? More like Toronto and Quebec who run the show. Why do you think Ontario Northland was built and parallell four-lane highways ARE now? Unfortunatedl as part of Ontario, the North has to share our gold, silver, iron, nickel, copper, water, lumber - but they won't share the wealth....
You must be so Green, do you live in a cave?
What, in the middle of the winter with -30 do you not use energy to heat your house?
It will take 100 years to completely set up a new infrastructure not depended on oil.
While the losers today in Ottawa are f ucking with people’s livelihoods.
Try this on for size, bud: What about heating with electricity from nuclear power (or photo cells for that matter), aided with a wood burning stove....
Doesn't look like it would take 100 years....
And using your logic (or lack thereof) shouldn't you also blame McSquinty and the Fiberals in queens park, too?
Gov't can't tie its shoelaces properly nor do it without forming multiple committees to study the situation. Alberta gets cranky and pulls its treasury shut against the feds and the country folds up like the hot air balloon that central Canada is. I just hope that BC has the beans to side with AB if/when it happens. BC's the gateway to the entire Pacific. Without AB and BC the feds are just so much riffraff to be made jokes of. hmmm Sorry, I guess they are jokes now. Well, you know what I mean.
If the feds try anything even close to the old NEP or what socrates is suggesting, it's pretty well a gaurantee that that is exactley what Alberta will do.
What we would probably see is at least BC, ALberta and Saskatchewan forming a union of some kind. I would think that the Yukon and Manitoba would be big maybe's.
What Gerry, you don't want the diamonds and gold in the NWT to go along with your dreamworld? Ok, we'll take it in the east. We'll take Nunavut.too if that's Ok. That Northwest Passage is going to be one lucrative trading route soon.
Why don't the west do it and get it over with. Hanging this crock over the heads of the rest of the country is BS. Quebec does the same bloody thing. You think you can hold the country for ransom? If you wanna leave...be my guest and go already. This Canadian is tired of you pockets of dissenters who regionalize yourselves with no regard for national unity. Lets do the deed and bring the different regions into focus so we can get on with governing without worrying about who we might offend. No wonder this country doesn't work. We're like a bunch of unruly children on the playground. It's my bat and my ball and I'm going home....selfish mf's. And there's not a politician in Ottawa (left or right) who will step up to the plate and do what's right for the country. They're all worried about their precious image or greasing their slippery palms or behaving like Mini Me for the great U.S of eh.
We are about to see a severe shift in the transportation sector anyway. In 10 years oil will be greatly reduced as the primary means of fueling our vehicles. It's already started with GM shutting down their truck and SUV plant in Oshawa. Who wants to run these gas guzzling behemoths anymore at todays prices? Next summer India will come out with a French-made vehicle that runs on compressed air. It can get 128km on a $2 fill. http://www.popularmechanics.com/automotive/new_cars/4217016.html
Be very afraid my friend. What's the west to do if they are on their own with no means to sell their black gold? Your only customer will be the US military and they are already looking into alternative fuel sources for their war machines. If you read the link, it's about 3/4 of the way down the page. http://www.peak-oil-news.info/military-oil-usage-statistics/
You might want to give it some serious thought before you go off at the lip about separation. In 30 years, when your Heritage Fund has dwindled to pennies because you've spent it on infrastructure upkeep and your farmland has dried up because you've upset the ecosystem with your unnatural water usage, you'll be damn proud the east is still kind enough to send you a fish or two to fill your ungrateful bellies. Think of the children Gerry....
OK, Soc, what do you have to say about the liberal's proposed carbon tax, eh? Just an other tax on gas prices which you have been bitching about. The liberals are gunna help you and your truck driving buddies by adding another tax, eh?

Of course, the Air Car will likely never hit American shores, especially considering its all-glue construction.
Only on issues that rile me up. Otherwise I'm a fairly sedate chap.Do you always go off half cocked?
Oh, I realize it's a very real possiblity. That's why I say get on with it. Stop prolonging the agony and making the rest of the country squirm. God bless you with your oil, but I feel for my struggling brothers and sisters in Ontario, P.E.I., Manitoba...you know...my fellow Canadians.I never said I supported sepperation, I have just stated the obvious, and if you don't think it's a very real possibility if the feds try to bring in an NEP type strategy then you are living in la la land my friend.
Don't need to do the poll. I'm well aware of Alberta's stance and the repercussions. I've been a guest in your fair province a total of 6 years. After awhile you begin to get the lay of the land. You apparently live in Edmonton, why don't you do a little unofficial poll and ask around what people in Edmonton would think of the feds nationalising our oil reserves and industry. See what the general consensus is.
Yep, read 'em. That's why I posted them. If people would slow the hell down on our highways we wouldn't have half the fender benders and tragic deaths like we do, whether you drive a glued cardboard box or a Hummer. As for your links...did you even bother reading them? Here's an excerpt from the air-car:
And this quote from the article....As for the american military, try reading it again. They are not talking about changes that will happen in the next 10 or even 20 years. Do you have ANY idea how long it takes a ship to go from drawing board to dry dock? Or an aircraft from the drafting table to actual production? Especially since we are talking about a LOT of new technology.
"Some novel ideas envision certain future classes of Navy ships using masts and sails, with the sails and the exterior of the hulls coated with photovoltaic cells."
This may not be so novel when the US takes a hard look at the expense of running their equipment on $200 or *gasp* $300 oil. As for the time it takes to bring a ship to dry dock, well the infrastructure is there. They just have to modify it. Sure it'll take some time but 20 years is not an impossibilty given the pace that we humans have progressed technologically in the last 20 years. And since technology is on an exponential rise and not linear, let me go out on a limb and say we can do it in 5 years.
And how long before natural gas reaches astronomical prices? At about $12.50 per million British thermal units, U.S. natural gas is about 65 percent higher today than a year ago. At that rate in 5 years natural gas will reach $152.00 per million Btu. I personally suspect it will rise much faster than that. Greed is a fascinating thing to watch Gerry.Oil will be around for quite awhile still, and with prices predicted to go to $200/barrel, the revenues Alberta will collect will do us quite nicely for sometime to come. Plus, if you notice, the american airforce is testing an engine that runs on a synthetic fuel made from coal and natural gas. You have noticed that Alberta has a fair amount of that too haven't you?
Yes, enjoy your $200 oil while you can, but at the end of the day the consumer will call the shots. You can only squeeze so much out of the average pocketbook.
As opposed to the stupider politics which the liberals had and the non-existant NDPers? Give me a break. You can't see beyond the end of your nose. But I'll say this, you have a one track mind, unfortunately the track is heading in the wrong direction...
