Experiencing some technical difficulties

I used to work tech support for sympatico... so many people would call in with browsing problems where the culprit was non-routable IP's, spyware usually the cause.

I only got that addy just once, and i knew I had to reboot....some glitch on startup.....I had heard before about trying to hack into 127.0.0.1 hee hee, darn computer caught in a loop...wierd

You can flush the DNS resolver tables by typing the command below... can help with problems like that.

Start-Run-CMD. "ipconfig/flushdns" without the quotations.

Good command to know. It had to be a local resolver on my PC which was having issues.

I wonder if that was your router? Perhaps the other computer took the ip addy instead of the router leaving you and the router with a 169. Once the other computer was logged off the router could again reclaim the ip and distribute it's own dns to both computers. ?

Yeah, the 169.xxx.xxx.xxx is a local ip address that a workstation will give itself if it can't find a dhcp server to issue the ip addy. In so doing it's not going to communicate with any other computers on the network.

In this case, the only site which was down was this one. The rest of the internet was working fine. If I had the wrong IP address I would have been completely dead.

Just a quick note: Sorry about the server busy messages! I've moved some stuff over to the dedicated forum server because of hardware failure a few days ago. I am still working on that server and will be ordering a new server to take over some of the load the whole site experiences. I've optimised some stuff within the past hour which may reduce the server busy messages.

Until I get up a 4th server to handle the load, you may experience slower than normal responses.
