I went around and around and around that silly idea, mostly with jimmoyer, in another thread a long time ago and it went nowhere because theists have to believe that atheism is a belief system so they can level the same criticisms against it that atheists do against their belief systems. Atheism is *NOT* a belief system, it's an absence of belief.It's not a religion, but it is a belief system

Well, not much choice. There's physical evidence of all the philosophers and teachers I mentioned (with the possible exception of Lao Tsu. Nope. But the more one does things on his/her own, the more he/she can find his/her own limits. The more self-confidence one has enables one to try things that he or she wouldn't normally.

Nobody truly does things on their own, despite what they think. Most of us rely on the support, in times of troubles, of family and friends. So, this is an extension of same, in a manner of speaking.

Me too. The only evidence Jesus existed is in the Bible. There are no contemporary Roman accounts that mention him, and the Romans were record keepers almost as devoted as the Nazis. Josephus makes one mention of Jesus, but it's only hearsay, a second-hand account reporting on somebody else's report. There's no corroborating evidence that Jesus was real, and Jesus is not the only person about whom claims of healing the sick, raising the dead, and so forth, were made. About two millennia ago there was a man living in what is now the Middle East who was credited with performing well-attested miracles: healing the ill and crippled, restoring sight to the blind, casting out demons, raising the dead, stuff like that. He was born of a virgin woman, as prophesied by an angel. He was executed by the local civil authorities, and it was said that he rose from his tomb and appeared to his followers to prove his power over death. He was called “The Son of God” by some. His name: Appollonius of Tyana. He's at least as well documented as Jesus is.
